In the world of extreme metal, there are different ways to crush a skull. Some bands use death metal or black metal to inflict their savage brutality; others use metalcore as their weapon of mass destruction. And then there are extreme bands that bring all of these things together, which is what the Classic Struggle does on Feel Like Hell. This 2005 release is more metalcore than anything; however, the Myrtle Beach, SC, band liberally incorporates elements of death metal/black metal as well as thrash metal. Lead vocalist Tim Zlinsky usually sings in the metalcore style -- that is, his vocal style is a tortured scream. But he sometimes slips into death metal's trademark growl -- a deep, guttural, demonic-sounding growl. But the Classic Struggle's lyrics are not death metal nor black metal. Despite the presence of a death metal growl here and a black metal blastbeat there, this is a band that lyrically has much more in common with Hatebreed, Brick Bath, or Throwdown than with In Aeternum or Dark Funeral. The Classic Struggle is a band that -- despite an appreciation of death metal/black metal and thrash -- is still metalcore first and foremost. What the Classic Struggle does on this dense, ferocious outing isn't groundbreaking by mid-2000s standards; numerous other noisemakers have done this type of thing. Some have done it better, some not as well -- and while Feel Like Hell won't go down in history as the most essential metalcore disc of 2005, the Classic Struggle offers a competent (if less than distinctive) dose of sledgehammer brutality. ~ Alex Henderson

| | Alicia Bonnet and The New Moon Singers New Moon Journey: Chants To Inspire Sister Circles CD (2009)
Feel Like Hell album
$11.39 Alicia Bonnet and the New Moon Singers offer a New Moon Journey CD for women who love to sing and gather for sisterhood. This CD contains 13 New Moon Sister Circle songs that were recorded with the vocal range of most women in mind and are easy to learn and share. Some of the chants included are favorite women’s chants as “We All Come from the Goddess”, “Ancient Mother”, and “Merry Meet”. Some have come through Alicia as “Holding Love”, “You Can’t Hurry the Goddess” and “Courage to be Yourself”.The New Moon Journey CD is an invaluable tool in the orchestration and flow of a New Moon Sister Circle. Pick some chants you or your group likes. Then learn them by singing along with the CD at your gathering. Skip over the ones you don’t want to use. The chants are arranged in a sequence which follows the flow of a ceremonial gathering. The birthing of this CD is the completion of a dream. During a teaching trip to Ireland and Wales in the fall of 2007 with my twin flame, Whitewolf, the seed for this New Moon Journey CD was born. Many gifts, lessons, and oodles of self growth has come from being the vision holder of this project. I am so blessed to have had the joy of singing and writing with these sisters, and all the other folks envovled in the creation of these tools to assist you. I hope you all share as much fun, expansion and love as we do in singing, laughing ...
