They all live in Los Angeles. And in the next 36 hours, they will collide. Sandra Bullock, Don Cheadle, Matt Dillon, Jennifer Esposito, Brendan Fraser, Terrence Howard, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Daniel Dae Kim, Thandie Newton, Ryan Phillipe, and Larenze Tate star in this film directed by Paul Haggis. A stellar cast collides haphazardly in this insightfully written roundelay of racism, rage, and redemption which takes place over the course of one day in LA and involves a circus of cops, robbers, and civilians. A detective (Don Cheadle) with a heroin addict mother and criminal brother investigates the shooting of a black cop by a white one. Two hoodlums (Larenz Tate and Ludacris) jack the car of the District Attorney (Brendon Fraser) and his angry, racist wife (Sandra Bullock). Terrence Howard and Thandie Newton play an upper-class African American couple harassed by a racist cop (Matt Dillon). And the chaos continues, with other roles played by Tony Danza, Michael Pena, and Jennifer Esposito. A propulsive Mark Isham score keeps the disparate narrative threads electrified from the get-go; when they finally connect, the results are explosive and beautiful. Everything is tied together with tight editing and artistic shots of car headlights cutting through dense morning smog. Writer-director Paul Haggis' (writer of MILLION DOLLAR BABY) Los Angeles is a world of alienated people struggling to connect across vast barriers of language, class, and culture; that they manage to do so is testament to their depth as characters more than some trite message of brotherly love. There are no easy answers, but this film is tough, intelligent, and gutsy enough to find some anyway; and for that it's a winner. Crash Reviews: "Mr. Haggis's evident sincerity and intelligence are reflected in the conviction of the cast..."-- A. O. Scott, New York Times "The acting is dynamite, notably by Dillon and Newton....The film is a knockout."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone "The stunning, must-see drama CRASH is proof that words have not lost the ability to shock in our anesthetized society."
-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly "The dialogue and scenarios are sometimes inspired....[With] intricate construction and intelligent, if melancholy, exploration of race and class warfare."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today "As the interweaving plotlines throw unsympathetic characters together...the script makes many brave, original points about cultural clichés."
-- Chris Roberts, Uncut Ranked #15 in Uncut's Best Films Of 2005 -- "Haggis tackles this thorny subject matter with courage, wit and insight, unafraid to ask the tough questions."
-- Uncut Staff, Uncut Included in Entertainment Weekly's Top Ten Films Of The Year -- "Paul Haggis has found an inspired metaphor with which to explore a modern-day L.A. snarl of race, class, and culture."
-- Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly Ranked #11 in Rolling Stone's "Top 25 DVDs Of 2005' -- "[T]he rage sticks, as do the emotions underlying it."
-- Peter Travers, Rolling Stone 5 stars out of 5 -- "A superb interlinking ensemble drama..."-- Natalie Braine, Ultimate DVD Crash | List Price | $14.98 (You save $4.93) | | Studio | Lions Gate Home Entertainment | | Orig Year | 2005 | | DVD Encoding | Region 1 | | All Time Sales Rank | 4448 | | CD Universe Part number | 6921263 | | Catalog number | 18342 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Sep 06, 2005 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | language, sexual content, and some violence | | Running Time | 100 Minutes | | Additional Info | Full Frame; Subtitled | | Movie Details | Color; Digitally Processed; Full Frame; Subtitled; Full Screen |

One for the Ages Crash restored good movies, it was an artistic film, that was well directed by director Paul Haggis, and really created a deliberate debate with your own mind about morales, principals, and reality, the inner-twineing of each individuals lives was fantastic, and every actor brought there A-game in this film, as Matt Dillion was phenomenal and got nominated for best-supporting-actor, as well the cast together developed such a great movie that it won best picture, and was nominated for best director (Paul Haggis), Crash is going to be one of those films that will have history on its excellence when it comes to any variety or sort of discussion involving movies. Beautiful and Honest I LOVED this movie..... it was full of honesty about the nature of human beings. I loved the fact that it did not adhere to a sense of political correctness. I loved the way all of the lives of the characters came together in the end. This movie will teach even the hardest of hearts that we must learn to be better people. Crash film
$13.19 With THE SOUND OF REVENGE, Chamillionaire's 2005 Universal debut, the Houston-based rapper makes the most of his major-label deal, which includes his own Chamillitary imprint. On SOR, Paul Wall's former collaborator amps up that duo's signature chopped-and-screwed mixtape sound with heavy-duty arrangements that expertly showcase Chamillionaire's deep, husky voice. The introductory title track is marked by machine-gun beats, and establishes the album's fierce, restless mood. But the disc's highlight is the utterly infectious single "Turn It Up," which boasts Scott Storch's distinctive chiming production and an appearance by Lil' Flip. Although fellow Texan Bun-B, Krayzie Bone, and others also show up, REVENGE doesn't rely on guest shots; this is Chamillionaire's show through and through, as proven by each track on this assured and potent record.
Personnel: Chamillionaire (rap vocals); Killer Mike, Krayzie Bone, Lil Wayne, Pastor Troy, Rasaq, Scarface, Lil' Flip, Natalie , Bun B (rap vocals).
| | Mary J Blige Breakthrough CD (2005)
Crash review
$10.49 The album's lead-off single, "Be Without You," a bittersweet slow jam, is representative of the album's themes, which focus on feelings of strength and weakness in love. But whether waxing romantic ("Can't Get Enough") or detailing the travails of the heart ("Baggage"), Blige lays down elastic R&B vocal lines that are second to none. Even a seemingly unlikely duet with Bono and U2 on "One" comes across beautifully, adding a new dimension to that familiar tune.
After her somewhat lukewarm 2003 release LOVE & LIFE, Mary J. Blige returns to her rightful place as the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul with 2005's THE BREAKTHROUGH. Blige enlisted a host of guest producers to contribute tracks to THE BREAKTHROUGH, and the result is one of her strongest and most varied albums. As usual, the sound is a mixture of smooth, urban contemporary and hip-hop edge, but Blige nails it with tracks like the pulsing "Enough Cryin'" (with its rich, multi-layered vocals) and the breezy "Can't Hide From Luv" featuring a guest spot by Jay-Z.
Personnel: Mary J. Blige (vocals); Dave Young, will.i.am, Brook (vocals); Jay-Z (rap vocals); Bryan-Michael Cox (various instruments); Raphael Saadiq (guitar, bass guitar); Craig Brockman (keyboards); U2.
| | Jamie Foxx Unpredictable CD (2005) Parental Advisory, DualDisc
Crash DVD
$16.69 This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Jamie Foxx's second release as a solo artist is his first since his Oscar-winning portrayal of Ray Charles in the 2004 film RAY. It is natural, then, that UNPREDICTABLE would be a much higher-profile affair than 1994's PEEP THIS. The production credits include top-currency names like Timbaland and Sean Garrett. And guest stars? Forget about it. Common, Ludacris, Twista, Snoop Dogg, and Mary J. Blige, just to name a few, make appearances and help boost Foxx's credibility as one of the most popular kids on the block.
Foxx's music falls firmly into the category of sultry, hip-hop-inflected R&B a la R. Kelly. And like Kels, Foxx too has a penchant for bedroom themes, as UNPREDICTABLE pulses with the rhythm of sex. His study of Ray Charles's bluesy, elastic vocal style holds him in good stead, though: Foxx has an authoritative delivery on both uptempo grooves ("Warm Bed") and slinky slow jams ("VIP"). While not exactly groundbreaking, the album--with its superior production, excellent guest spots, and Foxx's impressive performances--still comes off a winner.
Foxx's first dualdisc release includes tracks featuring Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, and Pharell, with producers including Mike City, Underdogs, Sean Garrett, Pharrell, and Timbaland.
Personnel: Jamie Foxx (vocals); Mary J. Blige (vocals); Common, Kanye West, Ludacris, Snoop Dogg, The Game, Twista (rap vocals).

$28.65 Oscar winning documentary filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade (MURDER ON A SUNDAY MORNING) helms this Sundance Channel production. Based on the 2003 trial of an author named Michael Peterson, who was accused of killing his wife, de Lestrade lets some fascinating material unravel on the screen. Taking the viewpoint that Peterson was innocent, the director paints a picture of an unfortunately framed man whose wife died an accidental death. The eight-part series is presented here in its entirety, offering plenty of food for thought on the case itself, and on the American justice system.
For two years filmmaker Jean-Xavier de Lestrade documented the high-profile murder trial of Michael Peterson, a North Carolina author who was arraigned in 2001 for the murder of his wife. During those two years, two distinct versions of his wife's tragic death were played out by police investigators, medical examiners, television news broadcasts, and finally in a jury room. Was Peterson innocent - a devoted husband grieving for the love of his life - or a callous killer who brutally murdered when his wife discovered his secrets and betrayals?
