$15.99 Recorded between 1956 and 1963. Includes liner notes by Rob Finnis.
Digitally remastered by Duncan Cowell (Sound Mastering Limited).
Ace Records' Queen of Rockabilly is such a good idea for a Wanda Jackson collection that it's astonishing that it didn't get put together and released until 2000 -- or that Bear Family Records, which is no slouch when it comes to distilling ...

| | DJ Spooky Rhythm Science: Excerpts And Allegories From... CD (2004) (Import)
Young Love: The Best Of Tab Hunter songs
$13.59 The Belgian label Sub Rosa invited DJ Spooky "That Subliminal Kid" to remix its whole catalog. Yes, it has been done before, but there are two main factors of interest in this particular project. First of all, DJ Spooky is an unusual DJ, to say the least: he's highly imaginative and willing to push boundaries without going to the extent of disfiguring his source materials. Second of all, Sub Rosa's catalog encompasses a smorgasbord of audio art. And DJ Spooky has tapped into the richness of Sub Rosa's "audio archive" (dixit the album's subtitle) to produce a hard-hitting, 79-minute mix. The mix rarely stays in place, constantly moving ...
| | Backdoor Men Sodra Esplanaden #4 CD (2005) (Import) Sweden
Young Love: The Best Of Tab Hunter album
$15.59 SONDRA ESPLANADEN V.3, featuring ex-Creeps vocalist Robert Jelinek, contains the complete recordings of Swedish garage rockers The Backdoor Men, as well as extensive liner notes and photos.
Collecting everything the band released on vinyl during its lifetime plus a few random bonuses from cassettes, Sodra Esplanaden, Vol. 4 has the feel of one of the single-disc artist overviews on Sundazed for bands like the E-Types. Then again, that's probably just the way the Backdoor Men wanted it -- a '60s-obsessed garage/mod band from Sweden that came together in the early '80s, the Backdoor Men were one of many similar groups of the time enthralled with an already long-gone past. But they had it better than most thanks to an absolutely killer debut single, "Out of My Mind," which could have dropped out of a time warp from two decades previously and easily made the cut on the original Nuggets. Frenetic, energetic, ...
| | 3 Doors Down Seventeen Days CD (2005) Import
Young Love: The Best Of Tab Hunter CD music
$12.79 In 2000, 3 Doors Down achieved major success by adding a rough-and-ready Southern-rock edge to angsty Creed-style neo-grunge. With its third album, SEVENTEEN DAYS, the Mississippi band strips its sound down even further, often adding a grinding, metallic edge. "Right Where I Belong" begins with a de-tuned, serpentine riff that is equal parts Soundgarden and Superjoint Ritual, while "Let Me Go" is a dark, mid-tempo groover reminiscent of Staind's biggest radio hits. "Landing in London" is a weary life-on-the-road ballad that recalls both Kiss's "Beth" and Bob Seger's "Turn the Page," and, in fact, features the Michigan rocker on guest vocals. A collection of memorable songs that finds frontman Brad Arnold addressing themes of alienation and strained relationships in a Ronnie Van Zant-like whiskey-soaked voice, SEVENTEEN DAYS should appeal to those fans who like their arena rock deep-fried.
The stronger songwriting on 3 Doors Down's multi-platinum sophomore effort, Away from the Sun, was encouraging, especially after the rote post-grunge of their 2000 breakthrough, "Kryptonite." But the hit single "When I'm Gone" resonated in particular with American military personnel and their families, who identified with lyrics like "Hold me when I'm here" and "Love me when ...
