| | Jeffrey Osborne From The Soul CD Jeffrey Osborne Discography of CDs
(5 Customer Reviews)
Smooth soul singer Jeffery Osborne dropped FROM THE SOUL, a classy set of cover songs, in 2005. Osborne is a gentle, sensuous vocalist with a great deal of control and subtlety, so it is a treat to hear him on these tunes, some of which are quite well known.
Gamble and Huff's romantic soul classic "Close the Door" (popularized by Teddy Pendergrass) kicks off the set, and sets the tone for the rest of the album. Straightforward groove-oriented arrangements highlight Osborne's voice, especially on the gospel-tinged take on Stephen Stills's "For What It's Worth" and Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready." This is an excellent collection of laid-back R&B that straddles the line between classic soul and quiet storm, and does so with class and charm.

Jeffrey Osborne From The Soul Songs From The Soul Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) WHY IS THIS MAN SO NEGLECTED? I have been a Jeffrey Osborne fan since his LTD days and the man is miles better than Luther, God rest his soul, but never spoken about in the same breath. I was a bit dubious when I heard Jeff was going to do a covers album but this one works because 2 or 3 of the songs I've never heard before, so they sound like new, and the rest have not been done to death, so they also sound fresh. Having a proper producer works as well as Jeff's vocals are the best I've heard since his Don't Stop album. 'The First Time...' is sucjh a brave choice to cover, yet he pulls it off brilliantly. When are you coming to England Jeff? Submitted by kelvnel (Romford, England) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No 1 of 1 found this helpful.
This really is "From the Soul" Jeffrey Osborne is worthy of every word of praise for his newest release, From the Soul. The whole album is amazing, but I admit my favorite is "Yes I'm Ready." I really like his distinct baritone voice and the way he does his own interpretation of these songs. I definitely recommend this album! Submitted by Tracy (Santa Monica, CA) Was This Review Helpful? From The Soul Reaches Deeper This project from Jeffery came in due time and is well represented. He has been a long time favorite of mine. I believe when an artist does a remake it should come from the "Soul" not just making a record cause no one has heard from them in a while. Yes, Jeffrey was Ready, he really Opened the door on these classics, Thank you, Sir. Submitted by tzzmn27 (Houston,Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Freddie Jackson Personal Reflections CD (2005)
From The Soul music CDs
$11.59 Especially when compared to his explosion onto the adult contemporary and quiet storm radio scene in the '80s, the '90s weren't too kind to Freddie Jackson. A longtime soft rock radio staple, his instantly recognizable anthems began to show their wrinkles and cracks with their dated productions, and were slowly replaced with more current and polished productions. Thankfully, with Personal Reflections Jackson reminds everyone why he was such a potent force in the great quiet storm invasion of the '80s, and why his name belongs up there with some of the style's most well-known artists. This comeback album starts off in fine form with a fantastic and by the numbers cover of Paul Davis' anthem "I Go Crazy" and ...
