| | Miri Ben-Ari Hip-Hop Violinist CD Miri Ben-Ari Discography of CDs
(4 Customer Reviews)
On this 2005 album, Israeli jazz violinist Miri Ben-Ari reinvents herself as a funky, rap-loving performer. While such a career move might initially seem perplexing, it makes perfect sense when considering hip-hop's love of dramatic, string-heavy backing music. Those expecting an all-out rap album should take note--although THE HIP-HOP VIOLINIST features an army of guest stars (including Kanye West, John Legend, Anthony Hamilton, and Akon), Ben-Ari's expressive, Middle-Eastern-inflected violin runs remain the focus of the record.

Hip-Hop Violinist album
$6.19 The '60s Blues Revival begins here. Calling this album influential is an understatement akin to calling the Grand Canyon a rut; suffice to say that an entire generation of musicians (mostly young and white) heard this and had their lives changed forever. In fact, for at least a year after the album's ...
| | VH1 Presents The Corrs Live In Dublin CD (2002)
Hip-Hop Violinist CD music
$6.19 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood and Nancy Sinatra's "Summer ...
| | Drive-By Truckers Southern Rock Opera CDs (2001) Digipak
Hip-Hop Violinist music CDs
$11.99 A sprawling two-disc set, the Drive-By Truckers' SOUTHERN ROCK OPERA is a cracked masterpiece that's enjoyable on several different levels. Hipsters might enjoy the giggly premise of a two-disc set devoted to a slightly altered retelling of the rise and fall of 1970s Southern rock icons Lynyrd Skynyrd. Progressive rock fans lamenting the modern era's relative lack of story-driven albums divided into ...
| | Brian Mcknight Gemini CD (2005)
Hip-Hop Violinist songs
$10.65 On that latter track, the silken-voiced balladeer intones "it's hard to breathe without you, girl, and baby, that's a fact" with an earthen, vulnerable sincerity that typifies every McKnight composition. It's that mature connection to his songs that places McKnight in the category of the finest contemporary R&B crooners. He drives that point home on "Grown Man Business," as he touts the virtues of the reliable, refined man over the ...
| | Antony I Am A Bird Now CD (2005)
Hip-Hop Violinist album
$12.49 Though he probably achieved his greatest mainstream recognition backing up Lou Reed on tour, idiosyncratic songbird Antony is a fully established artiste in his own right. Backed by the Johnsons, as on I AM A BIRD NOW, he crafts delicate ballads that skirt the lines between cabaret, artsong, and pop, with the kind of voice that Stephin Merritt would probably kill for. Antony's unique pipes bring to mind an androgynous Bryan Ferry or a high, quavery summit meeting between Jimmy Scott (another Reed supporter) and Aaron Neville. The stately, graceful, ...
| | Dredg Catch Without Arms CD (2005)
Hip-Hop Violinist CD music
$8.49 Early on, critics often described Dredg as a metal group. However, the quartet has since matured into a hard-edged indie-rock ensemble that seeks diversity and refinement in its music. On CATCH WITHOUT ARMS, the band favors highly orchestrated parts, dense guitar ...
| | James Brown Funk Power 1970: A Brand New Thang CD (1996)
Hip-Hop Violinist music CDs
$14.45 The selections on this collection feature numerous previously unreleased unedited takes and alternate mixes. Brown recorded at a furious pace, with "Sex Machine" bringing him out of a commercial slump. However, barely a year later, the Hardest Working Man in Show Business was again without a band when Bootsy quit, taking most of the other members with him.
Import pressing of his 1996 compilation that's unavailable domestically. This compilation, prepared and ideally notated by Harry Weinger and one-time JB manager Alan Leeds, is so full of groove it could doubtless sub for a faulty pacemaker
Digitally remastered by Gary N. Mayo (Polygram Studios).
Recorded at Starday Studios, Nashville, Tennessee; King Studios, Cincinnati, Ohio; Bobby Smith Studios, Macon, Georgia; Rodel Studios, Washington, DC between April 25, 1970 and January 26, 1971. Includes liner notes by Alan ...
