This terrific, critically acclaimed 1986 album from indie cult favorites The Meteors features 12 tracks of their unique brand of "psychobilly" rock.
Originally released in 1986 and finally issued on CD in 2005 as part of Anagram Records' ongoing trawl through the dustier corners of the '80s U.K. indie scene, Sewertime Blues is not one of the Meteors' key albums. Singer/guitarist Paul Fenech is running on psychobilly fumes throughout this album; not only are the songs largely uninspired rehashes of the earlier Meteors sound, they're played with a curious lack of energy and, in far too many cases, needlessly extended up to and beyond the four-minute mark, which is about twice as long as a Meteors song really needs to be. Fenech's lyrics are also atypically uninspired, lacking the cartoony horror-movie aspect of so many of his best songs. The CD edition adds two previously unreleased bonus tracks, an endearingly messy rockabilly take on Jan & Dean's "Surf City" and a minor Fenech original called "The Edge." ~ Stewart Mason
This brilliant Meteors album from 1986 is released in a special digipack version with two bonus tracks. The album was a top 10 indie chart success and was unavailable for a number of years. The Meteors are the undisputed kings of psychobilly and have a large loyal growing fanbase.
Special edition includes two bonus tracks. Meteors Sewertime Blues Songs Sewertime Blues Review

Sewertime Blues album
$11.18 With Adam Lambert, American Idol finally got a finalist who was completely, utterly contemporary, aware of what's hip in music and culture and aware of how music is made and consumed in 2009, never seeming to try to follow fads or set trends, just embodying the time. Mercifully, he came in second to Kris Allen, for if he came in first he may have had to tame his self-styled glamazon ways. A second place finish allowed Lambert to come out of the closet and indulge in his penchant for theater on his debut, For Your Entertainment -- which isn't quite the same thing as camp, for if Adam Lambert is anything, he's earnest about his dress-up, never winking at the audience because he doesn't think there's much funny about his glitter and mascara: that's just what pop stars are supposed to do. He's learned that by listening to his stacks of Queen and Bowie records, from watching old MTV videos on YouTube, from living in a present that always competes with the ever-present past, so he takes it all at face value, mixing up arena rock guitars, new wave, disco, operatic overdubs with a constant electro pulse, glassy modern R&B, and the vague Euro strains of new millennium teen pop. All this makes For Your Entertainment very, very modern in a way few mainstream pop albums are in 2009, whether they're products of the American Idol/19 machine or not: Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Rivers Cuomo, P!nk, Lady GaGa, ...

Sewertime Blues CD music
$15.55 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the conventions of trad country, sacrificing ...

| | Mark Knopfler Get Lucky CDs (2009)
Sewertime Blues songs
$22.09 With the release of GET LUCKY, Mark Knopfler has made as many solo studio albums as he made group studio albums with Dire Straits, which itself may be a signal that it's time to stop comparing his two careers and simply accept them as separate entities. Of course, since Knopfler was the lead singer, chief instrumentalist, and songwriter for Dire Straits, there are obvious similarities, even if he has taken a deliberately different path as a solo artist. Basically, he's a lot quieter. "Border Reiver," the first song here, begins with a pennywhistle and a piano, then strings join in. Soon enough, Knopfler's distinctive conversational baritone begins calmly intoning lyrics, and eventually there are examples of his melodic fingerpicked guitar style on both acoustic and electric guitar. He even works ...

Sewertime Blues songs
$9.15 On 2006's LIVE A LITTLE, singer/guitarist Joe Pernice leads his New England-based cadre through another set of highly melodic indie-pop, proving yet again that he is one of the most sorely underrated songwriters of his generation. With this album, Pernice places the 1980s post-punk fixation of previous outings back in the attic, emerging with a bright, buoyant chamber-pop sound that recalls the band's lauded debut, OVERCOME BY HAPPINESS. (This is no coincidence, since this record shares the former disc's producer, Michael Deming.) In addition to charming, literate tunes such as "Somerville" and "Zero Refills," LIVE A LITTLE features a reworked version ...
