| | Pink Martini Sympathique CD (1997)
Shock Wave music CDs
$13.89 The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.

| | Yasmin Levy Mano Suave CD (2007)
Shock Wave CD music
$13.49 Yasmin Levy has proved herself to be the leading exponent of Ladino song (Ladino is the language of the Sephardic Jews whose roots are in Spain). However, her previous albums have never quite captured her potential. This time, though, she's hit the spot, finding both the intensity of performance and delicacy of arrangement that's been her hallmark. The style is a mix of influences that blend perfectly -- listen carefully and you can hear traces of flamenco nestled alongside Middle Eastern music, with influences from around the Mediterranean liberally scattered across the sound. Her voice is in glorious form, with a depth of purity that illustrates just how she's matured and fully grown into ...
| | Adam Smouse CD (2005)
Shock Wave music CDs
$12.69 24 year old Adam Smouse is an ardent, outspoken singer/songwriter from Portland, Oregon, and it is obvious that being raised in the beauty of the awe-inspiring, pacific northwest has had no small impact on him or his music. "If I could describe myself in one word, that word would be: impassioned." Formally trained on the accordion from the age of six, and having started singing for audiences at an early age, Adam picked up an acoustic guitar in high school, taught himself to play, and began writing his own music. Writing turned to performing, and Adam honed his live performance in the coffee shops, bars, clubs, and other intimate venues of the Portland Metropolitan area. Whether he's on stage with a band or sitting on a stool ...
| | Pete McGuiness Jazz Orchestra First Flight CD (2007)
Shock Wave songs
$13.05 The multi-talented Pete McGuinness is a warm and fluent trombone soloist, a fine high-toned singer, and a skilled arranger. On the debut recording by his big band, McGuinness did all of the writing, composed six of the nine selections, and takes two scat vocals in addition to being the key soloist on trombone. He features such fine players as trumpeters Bill Mobley, Chris Rogers, and Tony Kadleck; tenors Tom Christiansen and Jason Rigby; altoists Dave Pietro and Charles Pillow; pianist Mike Holober (well showcased on "Comecar de Novo"); and the full trombone section on one of the best hottest selections, "The Tricksters." The music is essentially forward-looking straight-ahead hard bop, conventional but not lacking in surprises and excitement. First Flight is easily recommended to fans of modern big ...
