(1 Customer Review)
CCM sensation Point of Grace weigh in with their second holiday offering. The pristine harmonies of this quartet are as smooth and creamy as egg nog on an assortment of Christmas favorites, including "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year," "Jingle Bells," and a well-arranged medley that includes "pop" yuletide hits like "Frosty the Snowman" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Producer Brown Bannister--with his alternately sweeping and understated touches-- puts the icing on this tasty Christmas sugar cookie.

Winter Wonderland album
$10.59 Tony Orlando's early years as a teen idol may have yielded only a handful of minor hits, but his later fame with Dawn guaranteed that they would eventually be resurrected. "Bless You" was the biggest of Orlando's early charters, inching into the Top 15 in 1961. That song, as well as his other Epic recordings from 1961-1963, exemplify the teen pop style of the era with sparkling arrangements of pizzicato strings, a sweet vocal chorus, and other sugary treats for the ...
| | Wanda Jackson Queen Of Rockabilly CDs (2000) (Import) United Kingdom
Winter Wonderland CD music
$16.95 Recorded between 1956 and 1963. Includes liner notes by Rob Finnis.
Digitally remastered by Duncan Cowell (Sound Mastering Limited).
Ace Records' Queen of Rockabilly is such a good idea for a Wanda Jackson collection that it's astonishing that it didn't get put together and released until 2000 -- or that Bear Family Records, which is no slouch when it comes to distilling down certain aspects and angles of American country and rock & roll stars, didn't do it first. It should have been out a lot earlier, in the 1970s -- that would have saved hundreds of listeners (maybe thousands, around the world) having to buy, borrow, or steal her old LPs and singles, so we could isolate and distill down her rockabilly and rock & roll tracks onto open-reel tape or audio cassette. Compiler/annotator Rob Finnis allows the songs to jump across ...

| | Seldom Scene And Their Very Special Guests 15th Anniversary Celebration Live At The Kennedy Center. CD (1988)
Winter Wonderland music CDs
$15.35 This all-star tribute to America's finest progressive bluegrass band took place at the Kennedy Center in November of 1986, and featured performances by artists as prominent as Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt and as influential as Charlie Waller, Ricky Skaggs, and Tony Rice. The program is a delight from beginning to end, and includes the band's own renditions of classic material ("Workin' on a Building," "Rose of Old Kentucky") as well as a number of tribute performances by the guest artists. Ricky Skaggs and Sharon White deliver a gorgeous duet version of Townes Van Zandt's "If I Needed You," while Harris and Ronstadt team up on "The Sweetest Gift." Original lead singer John Starling joins the Scene on several songs, and the resulting sound will make longstanding fans of the band wistful for the old days; though mandolinist and tenor singer John Duffey is beginning to sound his age at this point, the old magic is still there on "You Don't Know My Mind" and "Rose of Old Kentucky." The band's rollicking rendition of the traditional gospel classic "Take Me in Your Lifeboat" is the perfect finale. ~ Rick Anderson

| | Gill Landry Ballad Of Lawless Soirez CD (2007)
Winter Wonderland CD music
$12.15 In lesser hands, Gill Landry's tableaus would come off contrived; his meticulously depicted portraits of the underside, unfulfilled, undesired, and unworthy would be busted as bogus. But Landry's too sharp a storyteller, too tuned-in a craftsman, too real, to find himself on the wrong side of suspicion. Like Tom Waits, John Prine, Steve Earle, and recent-years Dylan, Landry is down-to-business believable. His songs carry their own persona, and though they may be creepy and otherworldly at times and nasty and grubby at others, they're familiar while remaining at arm's length. Just as you know the stark, dark, sleek B&W abandoned pulp-noir street of ...
