| | Najee My Point Of View CD Najee Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
This is a hybrid Super Audio CD playable on both regular and Super Audio CD players.
On MY POINT OF VIEW, smooth-jazz multi-instrumentalist Najee offers up a solid set of groove-based easy-listening tunes. While guest vocalists appear on a few tracks, Najee's talent on the flute, alto saxophone, and soprano saxophone is such that the disc's instrumentals prove to be the highlights. Although Najee's 21st-century solo output has been scant, this 2005 album makes up for lost time by featuring some of the performer's strongest and most melodic songs.
Personnel: Najee (flute, soprano saxophone, alto saxophone); Will Downing, Lomon (vocals); Dwight Sills, Wayne Bruce, Alvin S. White (guitar); Chris Davis , James Lloyd, Rex Rideout (keyboards, programming); Dwayne "Smitty" Smith (bass instrument); Michael White (drums). **Super Audio CD (SACD) Hybrid** This CD will play in standard CD players. A Super Audio CD player is required to take advantage of the SACD sound technology. My Point Of View music CDs
$14.09 The soul-jazz minded keyboardist has been a legendary pop-fusion and smooth-jazz artist for several decades, and producer Steven Dubin had been a huge smooth-jazz force for several years (working with Peter White, Richard Elliot and Najee). The two Philadelphia natives never crossed paths (despite having gone to the same high school and played the same clubs), however, until Lorber hired him to work on his album Kickin' It. This disc continues the fun, feisty and funky retro-soul vibe of that disc in an even fuller celebration of their Phillyness. Lorber is so well known for his old school Rhodes textures (which were "new school" when he first did them in the 70s) that it's nice to hear so much classy acoustic piano here, as on the seductive, horn drenched opening track "Under Wraps." ...

This ultracool saxman has some of the sexiest moves in smooth jazz and a dreadlock-based look that drives female genre fans wild. He's always focused on passionate, soprano-based tunes to express this sexuality in musical terms, so it's no surprise that one of the best tracks here is the power-passion ballad "Romantica." He's always been successful at adapting his lyrical sound and melodic sense to easy funk tunes, and here plays that middle of the road well on tracks like "Deska" (dedicated to his new bride Desi) and the soul classic "Wishing on a Star." But because we're so familiar with this side of his personality, it's always more fun to hear him fulfill a deeper potential, a bit outside the box. The ultragrooving, hip, and brassy title track, ...
| | Gerald Albright Kickin' It Up CD (2004)
My Point Of View album
$14.15 It's hard to deny that saxophonist Gerald Albright often gave up playing "jazz" -- at least the snob definition -- in favor of urban radio and smooth jazz radio acceptance. During his years on the Atlantic label (1987-1997), his full-lengths contained big hits surrounded by lackluster songs. The exception was the "real jazz" album (snob definition again) Live at Birdland West, which kicked up the excitement a notch. After leaving Atlantic his first record for GRP, Groovology, was freer and more fun. Maybe it wasn't "real jazz," but it was really good. Nothing was so sweet and staid that it made you wince and the excitement was certainly back. Kickin' It Up continues along these lines, and if it isn't as well constructed as Groovology, it will at least keep the Albright faithful coming back. Albright ...

The most adventurous quartet in contemporary jazz has met its visual match in Peter Max, the legendary pop artist who, as it turns out, is a huge fan of the band. Russell Ferrante and company could probably feel at home naming any of their innovative, loose-spirited albums after one of Max's paintings, but Altered State definitely ...

My Point Of View songs
$14.79 Robert Gotcher is no stranger to music. Starting back in fifth grade playing coronet in Fort Worth, Texas, he worked his way up into the upper echelons of marching band during high school. Of course, with the stigma of "Band Weenie", Gotcher did what any normal American kid would do: He submitted to the peer pressure, dropped out of marching band, and claimed, "Who needs this music stuff in real life anyway." Well, as it is with any calling, Robert found himself back into the music scene in the early '90's, but this time with an acoustic guitar in his hand. In 1991, collaborating with songwriter and best friend Jeremy Blaido, Robert began writing songs about the true love of his life, Jesus. 'Before I met Him, I never really had any reason to sing,' declared Gotcher. Shortly after Robert and Jeremy started writing songs together, they, with a few other believers, started up a music and drama ministry called 'Believe!' From 1991 to 1994 or so, they traveled from state to state sharing the love of Jesus through their original music and dramas. God's blessings were evident in the fruit that was born out of that ministry. After Believe, Gotcher began pursuing a solo "singer/songwriter" career in 1997 by writing and performing crossover Christian material. "It's important for a songwriter to express his/her experiences with passion, emotion, and realism," explains Gotcher, "and all the while connecting with his/her listeners. If I can't connect with you on some level of experience or emotion, then have I succeeded in my songwriting? I don't think so. And if I can't connect with you, then how am I ever going to share the truth and love of Jesus with you?'In 1998, Robert released his debut solo CD entitled "Freedom", a collection of soul searching songs which capture the whole 'coffee ...
