Based on the award-winning novel by Laurie Halse Anderson, this film unfolds a story about Melinda (Kristen Stewart), a smart and spirited high school freshman who retreats into self-imposed silence after she is raped one night at a party. Feeling isolated from her classmates and her preoccupied mother Joyce Sordino (Elizabeth Perkins), Melinda retreats further in an attempt to escape the torments of high school. It is only through her work in art class, along with the support of her compassionate teacher Mr. Freeman (Steve Zahn) taht she begins to reach out to others, eventually finding her voice and inner strength. Melina Sordino (Kristen Stewart, UNDERTOW) is entering the notoriously difficult time that is the freshman year of high school. She is no average troubled youth, however, for she refuses to utter a word, ever since a party to celebrate the end of 8th grade resulted in a violent encounter for the young girl. Kristen Stewart is such an amazing actress. I've never read the book before, but this movie is AMAZING!!

I was really worried that the movie would in no way compare with the book, but it so does. I was completely pleased with the film it is totally amazing.

this is one of my favorite books ever and the movie was so good! i loved it! the way kristen stewart plays melinda is absoutly amazing!!!!!! one of the best movies ever!!!!!
