Sete Vidas, Amores E Guerras album
$16.15 Celtic Woman, initially a one-shot collaboration by six leading Irish vocalists for a 2004 PBS special, struck a chord of adoration for the Emerald Isle, a fancy affecting both sides of the Atlantic, and swiftly became a permanent collective. THE GREATEST JOURNEY captures many of the best moments of elegant harmonizing by the act, from their serene and rapturous take on Enya's "Orinoco Flow" to the mournful yet poppily uplifting indigenous ...

| | Karma CD (2004)
Sete Vidas, Amores E Guerras CD music
$15.19 Karma was named by her progressive parents, an Episcopalian Minister and a southern bluegrass singer. Karma's father's spiritual calling in the church took the family from Asheville NC, to Austin TX, to Panama, to Philadelphia PA, and finally to King City CA. Her mother was a professional singer whose love of the lyrical content of Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Carol King had a deep impact on Karma's young musical psyche. But, It was in junior high school in urban Philadelphia that Karma discovered music for herself and on her own terms. Karma attended junior high school (with a primarily black student body) in East Oak Lane, PA where she discovered Prince. Her love of R&B was forged in these formative years, as she began cutting her vocal chops in a church choir. In the summer before her freshman year in high school, Karma's father uprooted and moved the family again, this time to King City, California to lead a congregation there. Rural King City is a predominately white and hispanic farming community, and a complete culture shock to Karma from her years spent in Phily. As hard as it is being the new kid in school, especially your freshman year in high school, Karma was no stranger to adjusting to new environments and quickly adapted. Enter Led Zeppelin and Guns & Roses to Karma's musical universe. If you listen to Karma's "Last Time" you can hear the influence of "Appetite for Destruction", or listen to "They've Got A Name For You" and hear the impact of Zeppelin. Shortly after graduating high school, Karma left home for Monterey, CA, driven to pursue her musical vision as a singer. It didn't take long before she was gigging every week, and winning loyal fans. Karma's stunning vocal talent and compelling performances had an immediate impact on the Monterey area's music scene. A local music producer took note and brought Karma into a studio to record a four song EP for Black Olive Records (known primarily for releasing Parthenon Huxley's acclaimed "P. Hux, Deluxe" album). Remarkably, two of the four songs recorded for Karma's very first recording collaboration became "top five requests" on commercial KCDU-FM radio in the Monterey / Santa Cruz / Salinas area, and one track became an "Official Add" to the station play list, along side tracks Sheryl Crow and Lenny Kravitz. Karma knew she'd found a team that would lead her to manifest her musical vision, and the next two years were giant steps. She worked in the studio on two independent projects with acclaimed record producers Marc Tanner (Aerosmith, The Calling) and Thom Wilson (Iggy Pop, The Offspring). Since the beginning of 2004, Karma and crew (Sean Michael White, formerly of "Nectar Of The Gods", on guitar; Guy Dubets formerly ...

Sete Vidas, Amores E Guerras album
$13.25 In an era of extreme globalization, the world shrinks by the second, as commodities circle the globe and cultures collide. Those collisions can be violent: witness the deaths in South Asia sparked by irreverent cartoons in a European paper, or they can be peaceful, as the rise of world music well illustrates. Frequency is globalization at its most positive, with the core duo of Alex Spurkel and Avi Sills enlisting the assistance of a multi-national, multi-ethnic, and multi-confessional group of vocalists and musicians. The result is Frequency, the group's debut album, a phenomenally diffuse set. The music within is highly sophisticated yet immediately accessible, song driven, yet club driven, too. "Every place that I've flown is my home," rapper Brutha Los imparts on "Babylon," a haunting number, where the mystery of the East washes over the west. Flamenco goes clubbing in a "Gypsy Lounge," dipping in and out of Mediterranean discos and North American jazz joints along the way. "Shisha" powers down the Autobahn straight into Afro-beat, across the Middle East and onto the Indian sub-continent, driven by a Spanish guitar that at one points flips into a gypsy dance, all the time pursued by an irrepressible rhythm. "Samba Bionic" boasting inspired disco vocals from C.C. White, moves carnival from Rio to Funky Town. "Sar I Sky" is illuminated by tabla and sitar, yet still finds strong echoes of the West via its clubby beats and funky bassline. "Moon Over ala Nar" throws its shadow across the Middle East and the Ottomans' Northern regions, while below a stomping, storming rhythm bashes its way into the techno clubs and out onto the street. The earth never stops spinning, but Naked Rhythm refuses ...
