Photographer: Sam Taylor-Wood. Arrangers: Diana Krall; John Clayton; Johnny Mandel. On her first full-length Christmas album, pianist/vocalist Diana Krall delivers a smoky, sophisticated, and slightly melancholy album perfectly suited to accompany egg nog cocktails and romantic afterglow holiday affairs. Although there isn't anything unexpected on Christmas Songs -- Irving Berlin's "Count Your Blessings Instead of Sheep" is as close to obscure as it gets -- Krall coos life into such standards as "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve," and "I'll Be Home for Christmas." It also doesn't hurt that she gains top-notch support from the Clayton-Hamilton Orchestra, whose urbane arrangements help bring to mind similar works by such iconic vocalists as Nat King Cole, June Christy, and Frank Sinatra. But it's not all deep sighs and bedroom eyes; on the contrary, Krall keeps things swinging with such uptempo numbers as the joyous "Jingle Bells," "Winter Wonderland," and the Blossom Dearie-inflected "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." If you like your holiday albums cool and classy, Christmas Songs is a stocking stuffer that's sure to please. ~ Matt Collar On 2005's CHRISTMAS SONGS, Diana Krall applies her sultry vocals and nuanced piano lines to a strong set of holiday classics. In addition to turning in a stirring performance of "The Christmas Song" that would make Nat "King" Cole proud, Krall eases into a swaying version of "Winter Wonderland" and a lush rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas." With its dynamic arrangements and pitch-perfect mix of pop and jazz, this album stands alongside other timeless Yuletide outings.Entertainment Weekly (p.80) - "Krall learned early on that she's better off being sultry than belting." -- Grade: B Diana Krall Christmas Songs Songs Christmas Songs Music Review Purchase Christmas Songs CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Diana Krall All For You (A Dedication To The Nat King Cole Trio) CD (1996)

| | Sarah McLachlan Wintersong CD (2006)
Christmas Songs
$9.25 Personnel: Sarah McLachlan (vocals); Diana Krall. Sarah McLachlan's WINTERSONG is a holiday album, yet it eschews the sprightly, sparkly feel of most seasonal releases. Instead, McLachlan sticks to the moody, adult contemporary folk sound for which she's known, bringing a reflective, occasionally melancholy atmosphere to a range of popular and traditional Christmas favorites. McLachlan's choice of covers is especially enjoyable; between ...

Christmas Songs
$12.09 One-half of respected East Coast underground duo Scienz of Life, the lyricist known as Lil Sci has garnered accolades for his charismatic flow, elevated wordplay, and engaging vocal tone since debuting in 1996 with "Powers of Nine Ether." Taking on the persona of John Robinson, Lil Sci combines with underground rap superhero MF Doom on the clever concept album WHO IS THIS MAN? As if there was any doubt, Doom once again asserts his dominance behind the boards, flipping dusty soul and jazz samples into infectiously spacey beatscapes. On the mic, Sci creates his alter ego through narrative verses and vivid story-telling rhymes while Doom connects each track with menacing interludes built on audio news segments that describe a mysterious man named John Robinson. MF Doom and Scienz ...
