| | George Jones At His Best CD George Jones Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Though AT HIS BEST contains no liner notes, making it difficult to determine when it was recorded, the album's contents are so impressive that date of origin hardly seems to matter. Jones, the dean of classic country singers, is in fine form here, his voice smooth, rich, and expressive-the standard by which most male country singers are judged.
Jones' subject of choice on this album is heartache, but his honky-tonk-heaven voice makes the anguish worthwhile. AT HIS BEST contains such classics as "I Threw Away the Rose," Lefty Frizzell's "Saginaw, Michigan," and the show-stopping "He Stopped Loving her Today." If you want an introduction to Jones, AT HIS BEST will do nicely. Purchase At His Best CD To buy, Click on price to add to cart | Brooks And Dunn - The Greatest Hits Video Collection DVD (1997)

| | Nitty Gritty Dirt Band Speed Of Life CD (2009)
At His Best CD music
$15.05 Speed of Life is the first studio album by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in five years and celebrates the group's 43rd anniversary with three of its original members still intact (and no, the number 43 was not a typo). It also finds them reduced once more to a quartet with the departure of multi-instrumentalist Jimmy Ibbotson. That said, the band has lost none of its immediacy, power, or expert presentation of both original material and songs from some of Nashville's finest. Released by Sugar Hill Records (who distributes ...

| | Band Of Heathens One Foot In The Ether CD (2009) Digipak
At His Best CD music
$12.95 As you might expect from a group fronted by three singer/songwriters, the material on One Foot in the Ether is uniformly strong. The band's principals -- Colin Brooks, Gordy Quist, and Ed Jurdi -- all share writing and publishing credits, and since all three play several instruments, the album boasts a diversity of sounds and styles. The first thing that strikes you is how many of these tunes sound like gospel music. Given the name of the band, it's a real surprise. "Shine a Light" is a mellow, call-and-response number with churchy organ, stinging slide guitar, and an uplifting lyric. "You're Gonna Miss Me" is a blues with a gospel tinge, although the lyric is strictly secular. An odd, stuttering, New Orleans backbeat supplied by drummer John Chipman and rousing group vocals make the track take fire. "Let ...
| | Kenny Chesney I Will Stand CD (1997)
At His Best music CDs
$6.99 All tracks have been digitally mastered using HDCD technology.
On this, his fourth release, contemporary country singer Kenny Chesney proves that he's got the kind of consistent musical vision and overall stick-to-itiveness that are necessary to make a permanent mark in Nashville. While Chesney surrounds himself with the same studio vets (Larry Byrom, Brent Mason, Matt Rollings, etc.) that accompany 90 percent of his contemporaries, I WILL STAND sets itself apart by virtue of its nod to tradition. While he's not exactly Robbie Fulks, Chesney is clearly influenced by greats like George Jones and Merle Haggard. Instead of going for the across-the-board appeal of big, soppy power ballads, Chesney favors more authentic-sounding country ...
| | Wayne Newton Real Thing: 1954 - 1963 CD (2004) (Import) Germany
At His Best songs
$27.19 The Real Thing tells the story of Wayne Newton's early years through a collection of demos, acetates, independent label recordings and Capitol sides that, in many cases, are rare beyond belief. Newton's transformation -- from one-half of a kiddie hillbilly act to the archetypal Las Vegas showman -- is so extreme that many of his early recordings may appeal to '50s rock & roll and country fans who never gave Newton's music a moment's thought. For those who admire Newton's far-ranging talents as an entertainer, though, The Real Thing is a revelation. Wayne Newton and his brother Jerry, billed as the Newton Brothers or the Newton Rascals, began as a pure hillbilly duo with matching cowboy outfits, country and western songs, and a steel guitar played by Wayne himself. Their earliest demos and singles, made when Wayne was only 12-years-old, include up-tempo novelties and boogies comparable to the Collins Kids' first recordings. From there, they evolved into a rock & roll brother duo similar to the Everly Brothers with ...

| | Sonny Burgess Stronger CD (2005)
At His Best CD music
$10.45 It’s a Texas thing—that firm, confident handshake with the warm twinkle in his eye. It’s a growin’ up poor thing—standing in his own two boots, reliable as the sun coming up. It’s definitely a musical thing—like a tree that’s fed from its roots and grows strong and tall in a most delightful way. It’s a lot of things that come down to one thing—one man—SONNY BURGESS.The natural ease he exudes on stage is a hint that this “ain’t his first rodeo.” Growing up in the sun burnt town of Cleburne, Texas, Sonny was constantly surrounded by the sounds & realities that are traditional country music. Just down the road from Fort Worth, Sonny was immersed in the music his family loved. Hank Williams, Glen Campbell, Roy Clark and Chet Atkins were the regular musical fare during the evenings as Sonny and family gathered on the front porch.Inspired by the stories woven in the touching and haunting melodies, Sonny taught himself to play the guitar. Learning at the School of Hit Records and through an inherited musical ear (both his aunts and uncles made up a country group that toured throughout Texas), Sonny quickly grew into his own as a player and singer. And when he played for a live audience, he really liked how that felt. From his first public performance in the second grade, he was hooked."I remember it was the only time I got the attention of my first real crush," jokes Sonny. "But it was really the reaction of my peers and teachers that made me feel like this was something I really wanted to do for the rest of my life."In Texas, where sports are a religion of their own, Sonny’s other natural gifts—exceptional athleticism—found their moment in the sun as well. The first adolescent jewel he sought was a baseball diamond. In addition to holding the position of quarterback for his high school football team, his driving ambition was to become a professional baseball player. But playing music was always part of the game plan. "I remember right after games, my band and I would go straight to the civic center and play a show," Sonny says. "They were always so much fun because everyone would come out to hear us perform and it would be a whole-town affair."Anything that is soul-splitting competitive requires the complete investment of the heart to succeed. He loved baseball but after a stint on a professional ball team, Sonny soon realized that ...
