Singers featured are Eteri Gvazava and Anna Larsson. Switzerland's Lucerne Festival is one of the most important annual festivals of classical music in the world. Set in the rarified beauty of the lakeside town of Lucerne, where tourists come to gaze at the medieval castles and covered bridges, the Festival attracts the most acclaimed and famous classical musicians in the world. In 2003, the Festival Orchestra was conducted by the renowned Claudio Abbado, who led his expert musicians in a gorgeous performance of Mahler's second symphony, "Resurrection." Captured here in all of its visual and aural beauty, the fine performance also featured the talents of soprano Eteri Gvazava and Anna Larsson. Gustav Mahler - Symphony No. 2 "Resurrection" film
$20.15 LA PLATEE is a French Baroque opera, often called a "ballet bouffant," that challenges all preconceived notions of opera in a delightfully irreverent, anachronistic manner. The story revolves around a scheme devised by the gods to punish the ceaselessly jealous Juno by creating the illusion of an affair between her husband, Jupiter, and Platea, an ugly little frog who fruitlessly attempts to seduce anyone she encounters. Cruelly convinced by the gods that she has finally found true love, Platea and Jupiter go through the motions of a mock courtship and wedding, only for Juno to raise her veil and recognize the joke; poor Platea becomes the laughingstock of the country. This production by the Paris Opera proves an engaging romp, with a spectacular amalgam of styles ranging from hip hop to West Side Story
This Paris Opera production of Rameau’s burlesque on the vicissitudes of love, is ...
