| | DJ Quik Trauma CD (2005)
DPG Eulogy film
$13.89 DJ Quik is the essence of West Coast Hip-Hop, having been there from the early days when Compton was asserting itself as the voice of rap as the 1980s bled into the 1990s, and TRAUMA, the rapper/producer's seventh album and first in 3 years, finds Quik as relevant and potent in both lyrics and beats as when he dropped QUIK IS THE NAME. Never flashy, Quik finds art in simplicity, as with the laid-back groove of "Black Mercedes," and the rapid-fire spitting about relationships and distractions on "Catch 22."
If Henry Mancini had grown up composing music in Compton, it ...

DPG Eulogy video
$13.04 The long-anticipated third album from Rakim took a decade to arrive, but rabid fans should be warned that this is not a case of "ten years in the making". Nothing here is over two years old, so none of the unreleased Dr. Dre tracks fans have hoped for are included, but chances are they wouldn't have fit. With most songs focusing on the chorus, The Seventh Seal strives to connect with a 2009 audience and enlists vocalists like Maino plus producers like Nottz, Needlz, and Jake One to get the job done. Rakim himself is in fine form, showing the current ...

DPG Eulogy review
$15.45 HOSTAGE: This well-made thriller harkens back to the gritty crime films of the 1970s. Bruce Willis plays Jeff Talley, a traumatized ex-LAPD hostage negotiator whose new career as small town sheriff doesn't turn out to be as restful as he had hoped; a hostage situation breaks out on "low crime Tuesday" and he is thrown right back into the business he knows all too well. Some punk kids have shot a cop and are holed up in a local mansion inhabited by crooked accountant Walter Smith (Kevin Pollak), his two kids, and a lot of surveillance cameras. Walter's young son (Jimmy ...
