(5 Customer Reviews)
Fact & Fiction is actually a retitled and resequenced version of Aphasia's 2004 self-titled debut album, this iteration released the following year by DRT Entertainment. It's a heavily derivative record, putting earnest but overwrought material and vocals to arrangements that split the territory twixt hard rock and metal. The mindset is alternative in that the lyrics are soul-searching and the dynamics constantly varying between ballsy aggressiveness and quieter reflection. The songs lean toward self-absorbed examinations of precarious personal relationships, the singer usually the one either being wronged or in the right. Their influences might be rooted in post-1990 bands, but in truth their music can sound a little like the Police mutated to an emo outfit, minus the catchy pop hooks. ~ Richie Unterberger
Live Recording
Aphasia: Jeff Harber (vocals); Aaron Prim (guitars); Jayce Alexander Basques (bass instrument); Will Peng (drums).

Couldn't be better This cd is incredible from start to finesh. Definatley more creative and original than Trapt. These guys are even better live and I can't wait for their next album. Submitted by duke84 (Olympia,WA,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Are you sure this is not derivative??? If so, Flatline is a great single and so are nine other irresisitable tracks.
I know it's Chris Brown of Trapt that produced this. Can I tell if they sound like Trapt? If so, then they're young breeds. Much so young like chicks and not chickens. Could grow out a little. Interesting disc. Submitted by orangegreendesolate (Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Jukeboxer In The Foodchain CD (2004)
Fact & Fiction
$8.99 Collagist theory continues to be the guiding principal for some of the best new chaos of the mid-2000s. Floating in an ancient cistern, laptop perched on his chest, Brooklynite Jukeboxer (aka Noah Wall) assembles drag-and drop-composites of indie electronica and post-rock, fitting in tiny guitars, shimmering cymbals, and left field instrumentation (is that an accordion?) over squelchy polite beats and melodies that meander in grandeur. Indeed -- twin openers "Pilgrim" and "Missing Link" are gently-paced but powerful, forming bodies from flecks of both analog and digital sound and walking out of the cloudy ether to say hello. The vocal layers of collaborator Amy Jones throughout Food Chain and in particular on "Chance Openings" recall Magnetic ...

$9.89 Hello, I'm Cool John Ferguson. I was born in December 1953 on St. Helena's Island, one of the Sea Islands of South Carolina. I've been playing the guitar since I was three. When I turned five, I started gigging in the Pentecostal church of my family. You can hear some of that gospel flavor in my playing, a lot of traditional African music mixed with the field and spiritual music. A lot of my people came out of the Gullah tradition, with roots in Western Africa, hard work and a hard life on the plantations, and worship in praise houses. I was featured entertainer for Lowcountry Sing on Channel 5, Charleston SC, for three years, appearing with the Ferguson Sisters, an outstanding gospel trio.Music for me has always been a way to give praise for life and its gifts, but it has also been a way to celebrate with my friends, fellow musicians and excited audiences. When I play a show, I try to capture the spirit of the room and give some of that spirit back to everyone, amplified and transformed into something pure and beautiful.I learned to play naturally, hearing gospel or music on the radio and tv and records that my parents and sisters had around the house. I'd learn everything I could get my hands on, it didn't matter where the music came from, I just learned it all - tv themes, blues, R&B, jazz, gospel - it all came in my ears and out through my hands. It used to be hard to play anything but gospel music. My parents thought music should only be used to praise God, and that's true, but all the music I played was praise. In the late '60s, Earl Davis moved to Beaufort, SC. He was the chorus and band director at Beaufort High School. He had come out of the Army band at the same time Wayne Shorter was doing his service. Earl had an R&B band and, whenever I could, we'd play gigs at juke joints, military clubs, Elks and VFW clubs, really anywhere we could.I’ve been active on tent revival circuits, played with LaFace Records of Atlanta, GA, and collaborated with several well-known artists including Taj Mahal, Kenny Wayne Shepard, BB King, the Stylistics, Beverly Guitar Watkins, Captain Luke, and others. I’ve been honored by Living Blues Magazine for two consecutive years as “Most Outstanding Guitarist.” I started doing tours of blues festivals and clubs around ...
