| | Ohio Players Love Rollercoaster I: Anthology CD Ohio Players Discography of CDs
Released by Goldenlane in 2005, Love Rollercoaster: Anthology is an irritating Ohio Players compilation, starting with two of the group's biggest hits ("Love Rollercoaster" and "Fire") before dipping into the group's early recordings, back when they were more of a Southern soul act. This is an apparent ploy, assuming that casual fans won't look for the group's other chart hits ("Fopp," "I Want to Be Free," "Sweet Sticky Thing," "Skin Tight," "Who'd She Coo?") and instead wind up with a stylistically different set of songs. To be fair, there's a small-print description of the disc's contents beneath the track listing on the back, but it doesn't make the disc any more useful. Besides, these early recordings -- heard on the First Impressions compilation and debut album Observations in Time -- have been available in multiple forms. ~ Andy Kellman

Love Rollercoaster I: Anthology album
$6.55 This is a DTS CD, which features DTS 5.1 Surround Sound technology and is playable on a DTS-capable 5.1 Surround Sound system.
It took the Ohio Players numerous albums to make their funk masterpiece, but when FIRE was released in 1974, it proved the culmination of the hard-driving, bass-and-horn-heavy formula they'd been refining since the late '60s. The title cut, which became one of the band's biggest and best-loved hits, starts off with a fire siren and doesn't cool down from there, dropping into a thick, irresistible groove that deepens with added layers of keys, horns, guitars, and overlapping vocals. These classic funk arrangements also power "Runnin' from the Devil" and the slinky "Smoke," which features a jazzy guitar and ...

Love Rollercoaster I: Anthology music CDs
$7.15 The shape-shifting and enigmatic hip hop artist Kool Keith has managed to surprise, shock, and enrage fans and detractors alike with virtually every album he has released. His many personas include Dr. Octagon, under which he released 1996's DR. OCTAGONOCOLOGIST, a futuristic masterpiece that flouted traditional hip hop mores in favor of intriguingly disruptive, warped rhymes. He is also the Black Elvis, Dr. Doom, Mr. Gerbik, and Rhythm X, and is formerly ...

From his days singing gospel for the Highway Q.C.'s and as Sam Cooke's replacement in the Soul Stirrers, to his bluesy 1996 regional hit "Last Two Dollars," Johnnie Taylor covered an amazing breadth of musical ground. The 3-CD box set LIFETIME presents all sides of Taylor: spiritual singer, blues wailer, and soul superstar. Included are early cuts with the aforementioned Highway Q.C.'s ("I Dreamed That Heaven Was Like This") and the Soul Stirrers ("Out on a Hill," "Until Then"), along with Taylor's first forays into secular music, including his initial recordings ...
| | Mariah Carey Merry Christmas CD (1994)
Love Rollercoaster I: Anthology album
$8.49 At this stage of her career Mariah Carey does not need to prove herself, but her voice is so powerful that with each new recording she, once again, reminds you: "Listen to what I can do." Vocal gymnastics and Christmas songs are not often thought of as a compatible combination, but on MERRY CHRISTMAS Mariah jumps, climbs, crawls, twirls and dashes her way through both traditional fare and original Christmas songs.
She shifts through styles, offering fans from all musical camps a gift of their own. Her "Silent Night" shows off a studied vocalization where liquid phrasing is key. "Miss You Most (At Christmas Time)" shows off a dynamic voice that is hard to match. She has fun with the Phil Spector goodie "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)," a song straight out of '60s girl-group heaven. There is even a "Joy ...
