Salute To All album
$11.15 You've got to hand it to the Toasters. When the third ska revival hit in the mid-'90s, they had already been on the scene for over a decade, and bandleader Rob Hingley's Moon Ska NYC label was home to some of America's (and Canada's and England's) best ska bands. They took advantage of ska's new wave of popularity by releasing a truckload of albums by young bands, and while some have criticized Moon for a certain lack of discrimination during that period, there was no question that the Toasters' own releases were of the highest ...

Salute To All songs
$7.65 While the situation has improved since the days when these songs were written, women jazz composers in general, and African-American women in particular, rarely had the opportunity to hear their music performed, unless they played it themselves. The kind of music composed by these very talented musicians is not played enough. A Mellow Bit of Rhythm goes a long way toward remedying this situation by paying tribute to some of the most talented songwriters, who happen to be women, of the 1920s, '30s, and ...

Salute To All CD music
$11.95 Well into her mid-thirties, Julie London was also well past her commercial prime when she cut this live album for release in 1964. Actually, she had mounted something of a comeback the previous year with the LPs The End of the World and The Wonderful World of Julie London, both of which made the charts for her after a gap of six years from her 1955-1957 commercial heyday, but Julie London, released earlier in 1964, had not charted. London's film work was also at a low ebb; she had not appeared onscreen since 1961's The George Raft Story. But this was all the more reason to emphasize the personal appearance ...
| | Mott The Hoople Concert Anthology CDs (2005) Bonus Tracks; Reissue
Salute To All music CDs
$16.19 This collection of live recordings of the mighty Mott the Hoople during their peak period (1971 through 1974) sure looks good -- the memorable front cover design has been stamped with silver foil on black leatherette stock, with the discs carried inside a gatefold digipack case -- but once you open the thing up you realize something's wrong. First of all, there are absolutely no liner notes identifying when or where these tracks were recorded, or even who wrote which song. And it gets worse when you put the discs in the player. The fidelity varies wildly throughout the two discs, ranging from good 1970s radio broadcast to bootleg-level audience recordings, and the fact that most of this material has already been released is announced in a remarkable and unsubtle manner. At the end of the first track, "Thunderbuck Ram," Ian Hunter announces that the next song will be a cover of Little Richard's "Keep a' Knockin'." After a moment of silence, the next song starts -- only it happens to be "The Original Mixed Up Kid." When that tune ends, Mick Ralphs calls the next number, "Walking with a Mountain." And then, you get another second of silence and a cover of Sonny Bono's "Laugh at Me." This goes on and on throughout the two discs, and suggests this was set mastered by programming a CD player to play selected cuts from Angel Air's series of posthumous Mott live discs, with no one bothering to clip off the intros for the next song that tagged each track. This being Mott the Hoople, there are plenty of great songs here and some crackling performances, but ...

Like a North Pacific Coast Indian, she’s considered a cultured hero and trickster. Her freestyle skills seizes and devours voraciously every opponent. Meet Mc RavenAn east coast 80’s child of a poet and musician, Raven was taught how to count by her father by measuring time and bars. Her mother helped her to master her freestyle skills early on by simply playing the rhyme game. “That was my favorite thing ...
