| | David Phelps Life Is A Church CD David Phelps Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Although David Phelps has strong ties to the old-fashioned revival-style music of Bill Gaither's worship community, the singer's solo releases fall solidly into the contemporary pop/rock vein. Although most of Phelps's songs are explicitly about praising God, the immediately catchy "Something's Gotta Change" is an uplifting secular tune that could easily fit on Top 40 radio. Another highlight of LIFE IS A CHURCH proves to be the title track--a sunny, amiable song that features gospel touches and a soaring chorus. Those seeking Christian music that conveys its message with subtlety and grace will be well served by this accessible and enjoyable record.

David Phelps Life Is A Church Songs Life Is A Church Music Review Average Rating: (4 out of 5 stars) An Amazing Talent Shows an Amazing Range David Phelps delivers performances that move both the heart and mind. His song crafting abilities are in full view here, beginning with the first track ("With His Love"). Performances on "That's What Love Is," "The Name Lives On," and especially "Gentle Savior" are astoundingly beautiful and convey the lyrical truths in appropriate styles. Production on some other tracks, such as "Something's Gotta Change" and "Long Time Coming," while likely hits for radio, are a bit edgier than most Phelps' fare. But all in all, this is another outstanding offering from a master musician. If you are not familiar with it, check out Phelps' Christmas album, "Joy, Joy." It's a perfect album for the coming holiday season. Submitted by kdwashburn (Birmingham, AL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Kirk Franklin Hero CD (2005)
Life Is A Church
$9.85 Though testimonies of faith and questions of morality are still at the heart of Kirk Franklin's message, 2005's HERO represents something of a musical departure for the gospel superstar. Recorded with a full orchestra--complete with lush strings and driving horns--HERO is one of Franklin's most musically ambitious outings.
Featuring guest appearances by Stevie Wonder ("Why"), Dorinda Clark-Cole ("Hero"), and Yolanda Adams ("Afterwhile"), not to mention a song that utilizes a Tears for Fears sample ( "Let It Go"), the album offers plenty of variety, and a few surprises, in addition to its large-scale arrangements. Franklin manages to integrate these new elements perfectly into the celebratory and healing music on which he's built his career.

Life Is A Church
$15.85 Euro trance spinner and remix artist DJ Encore shows he has more strings to his bow than his involvement with the satin-smooth Engelina with this extended collection of dance platters chosen and mixed by the funky Dane himself. All the cuts on ULTRA DANCE 02 bear the unmistakable, grandiose stamp of Euro disco; some of them, such as Moby's "We Are All Made of Stars" will be familiar to even the most peripheral clubber, while others, notably the left-field remix of Yoko Ono's "Open Your Box" (originally the B-side of John Lennon's "Cold Turkey") will come as a pleasant, if mildly shocking, ...

Take a huge helping of danceable salsa, mix it with a splash of urban R&B and 70's pop, serve it up with a voice saturated with emotion, and you've got Marc Anthony.
