Minneapolis three-piece rap troupe Atmosphere--like their peers Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, and others--have been part of a new era of narrative rap, as they unfold deeply-etched stories over beats that are sometimes manic, sometimes mellow, sometimes old-school, sometimes surreally futuristic. Their fifth studio album, YOU CAN'T IMAGINE HOW MUCH FUN WE'RE HAVING, continues the tradition of complicated yet implicitly familiar parables. The more abstract moments, like "Panic Attack (The P.A.)," are akin to Grandmaster Flash and Public Enemy, and have a twisted, somber aura about them. Great work by atmosphere Hey ry tyrrell4 why aint u listening to 50 cent. Haha u sed anyone who rates this album less then 5 stars sucks, and then u go and rate it 3 stars :P probably an accident but ammusing none the less. As to the album, Slugs lyrics aint as deep as one previous albums, but he can't keep it up forever, eventualy he will run out of topics unless new ones present themselves in due course. This cd makes up for it by presenting us with the best beats ever to grace an atmosphere cd. Panic Attack is just tight. Great work, all Atmospheres stuff is worth getting. this is an instant classic some fans set expectations way too high i think this is just as good as past works slug sounds more confident and not as depressed as he used to sound he kicked the emo style to the curb and changed his rap style and i love it i can't wait for the sixth effort its coming this spring Submitted by Westonnixon89 (Altoona Iowa USA) Was This Review Helpful? pretty good album, it grew on me This was a pretty good atmosphere album, but definately does not touch the work that he did on "god loves ugly", or on "overcast". still had some quality songs, and i also think that little man is one of the best songs that i have heard in a while. It was a cd that i did not like at first, but the more that you listen to it, the better that it gets. Submitted by Doug (Taylorsville,UT,USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having music CDs
$10.45 This Minneapolis duo had spent about a decade at the center of the insular Twin Cities hip-hop scene before their national emergence with 2002's GOD LOVES UGLY, an idiosyncratic slice of state-of-the-art conscious rap. SEVEN'S TRAVELS, their fourth full-length release, is both a logical next step and a quantum leap forward.
Ant's painterly soundscapes conjure the glory years of Daisy Age hip-hop, and frontman Slug makes up for what he lacks in Eminem-style down-and-dirty venom with a compelling combination of grainy imagery and street-level introspection. The production is a layered affair that features off-kilter beats vying for bandwidth with smartly chosen audio verite and musical samples ...
| | Atmosphere Lucy Ford CD (2000) Extended Play
You Can't Imagine How Much Fun We're Having songs
$11.65 The opening track on Lucy Ford, "Between the Lines," burrows into the heads of a frustrated policeman, an oblivious young girl who watches movies perpetually to get away from her own life, and an indie rapper who descends into self-abnegation instead of self-aggrandizement -- hardly typical subject matter for a rap song. In fact, with Slug's singsong delivery, it hardly seems like a rap song at all, and is tugged back toward the genre only by Ant's steady beat-making. But then Atmosphere proves not to be typical in most every respect on this debut full-length, which is much the better for the duo's, and particularly its MC's, peculiarities. Lucy Ford actually collects the bulk of a pair of early Fat Beats-distributed vinyl EPs from the Minneapolis-based group on a single long-playing disc. It makes for a sterling introductory display. ...

$12.79 This is a 17-track anthology of favorites by British dance-pop quartet M People.
M People were one of the best and most successful bands to come out of the U.K. in the 1990s, and, amazingly, scored only one major hit in the U.S. with the electrifying "Movin' on Up." Their sophisticated blend of house, dance, soul, and pop, highlighted by Heather Small's always impressive vocals, is wonderfully represented on The Best of M People. This stellar collection rounds up all their ...
