There's an episode of the Internet cartoon Homestar Runner in which one of the main characters develops a half-dragon, half-man character by the name of Trogdor. This pencil-drawn character terrorizes small-town peasants living in thatched-roof cottages, and effectively "burninates" them down to smoldering ashes. That's sort of what the cover and inside drawings of Evil Chains look like, but without the intentional humor and awesome storyline. A fine-tooth comb applied to Battletorn's debut record would reveal influences of hardcore punk and bare-bones no-frills speed metal mixed together in equal measure. Ferocious 16th-note rhythm playing and machine-gun snare playing that wouldn't sound out of place on a Helmet album are the anchors here, and lead vocalist Beverly shrieks with the best of them -- but the distortion on her vocals is a tiresome thing after a while, and only hinders the experience of how truly powerful her delivery can be at times. At 18 tracks, Evil Chains' brevity is similar to most albums of this ilk, and that's definitely a good thing, because any more and fatigue would set in (which may explain why their live concerts range anywhere from the neighborhood of five to 20 minutes). Perhaps a few more fills and guitar solos would relieve the monotony of the onslaught, but not likely. Metalheads and punkers alike should rejoice and bathe in its energy. Anyone familiar with the industrial-metal band's dark sense of irony should take one look at the title of Rammstein's 2009 album LIEBE IST FUR ALLE DA ("Love Is There For Everyone") and conclude that this one is a mean monster. Combining the tightness and punch of their 1998 album SEHNSUCHT with the musicianship and elaborate textures of their later work, LIEBE IST is a grand achievement, skillfully dividing its time between razor sharp metal rockers like "B********" or the opening theme song "Rammlied" and nostalgic, cabaret pieces that conjure the spirits of Weil and Brecht at a goth club. Best of the latter is the naked and haunting closer "Roter Sand" but little touches of a sinister yesteryear are everywhere, like the fake vaudeville music in "Haifisch" or the soundtrack strings ...

The solo career of this great rock artist took a while to gather some steam; his 1976 album, Cardiff Rose, showed that with at least some consistent production and a tight backing ensemble, he could put across a powerful musical vision without having to rely totally on re-creating the sound of the Byrds. For this 1974 album his focus is as wandering as a glaucoma patient who has just gone through a two-hour field test. Many different influences come into his musical world, like strange cooks passing through a kitchen and dropping odd things into the stew. There is heavy collaborating with songwriter Jacques Levy, who like McGuinn was part of Bob Dylan's chaotic music world during this period. While Levy has fans who feel he brought great riches to the kingdoms of artists such as McGuinn, the offerings from the McGuinn and Levy songwriting team on this album, such as "Together" and "The Lady," are packed with corny images and shallow sentiments -- in other words, not exactly what one is used to hearing from McGuinn in his practically angelic role as a lead vocal spokesman for the Byrds. A bit of Turtles sauce goes in courtesy of vocal contributions from Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman -- it doesn't add much, but at least doesn't detract, which is more than can be said for the song contributions of session pro Al Kooper or the wimpy Dan Fogelberg. The title of the former artist's tune is a gift to critics and the public alike: "(Please Not) One More Time." One Donnie Dacus offers another pair of nothing songs, while the album's title number, courtesy of country singer Charlie Rich and hyped to the hilt via the album's artwork, is also pretty much a disappointment, a one-idea song that badly muddles the all-important ...

Earle Douglas was born and grew up in Brisbane, Australia. He started playing guitar in his early teens and has been playing with varying degrees of commitment and intensity ever since. Probably his earliest musical jolt resulted in him putting on quite a tantrum when his parents would not allow him to attend the Beatles concert in Brisbane in 1964. He felt being 6 years old and not having a ticket was beside the point and completely irrelevant. He played in numerous bands in his teens and early twenties playing rock and pop covers of the day at school dances and the likes around Brisbane.His second most significant musical awakening came when he heard Ry Cooder playing “Feeling Bad Blues” on a sports program of all places on Brisbane TV in 1986. That slide guitar sound was unforgettable and totally infectious.That sparked Earle’s foray into American Blues and Roots music.After many years of different endeavors and travels he eventually recorded his first album “While out in California” which won the "Sunnie" award of a “2000 Blues Album of the Year”. He was playing as regularly as possible at various clubs in Brisbane and enjoyed some local notoriety.In 2001 he decided to try and further his musical pursuits in the United States. After arriving in the USA, he was fortunate enough to easily jump into the blues scene in Phoenix, Arizona. He soon got to know many of the local blues performers and soon put a trio, Earle Douglas and the Jukes together and began playing quite regularly around Phoenix. For the most part of 2006 he took a break from playing at the clubs to produce and record his second album titled “Slide Rule”. This album is predominantly slide guitar, with a strong country blues theme. Earle recorded this album at his home in Fountain Hills, Arizona.
