Once known to the world as Johnny Rotten, the notoriously clever and cranky John Lydon first made his mark as singer for the Sex Pistols. When they disbanded, Lydon sought a very different direction, and with Keith Levin and Jah Wobble founded Public Image Limited, a "company" devoted to combining the influences of punk, dub reggae, disco, and German progressive rockers Can into a series of caustic, provacative soundscapes. More editions of PiL followed (including such musicians as Ginger Baker, Steve Vai, Bill Laswell, and Tony Williams), then a solo career--BEST OF BRITISH presents a comprehensive overview of a very unique career.
