Searing I was formed in Uppsala, Sweden, in 1999 by Mattias Hansson (bass), Marcus Olofsson (guitar), Andreas Engman (drums) and Andreas "Hasse" Hansson (vocals). In 2001 Anders Björk was added to the line-up as the second guitar player. This line-up recorded two demos. "Hasse" left the band in 2003 and was replaced by Andreas Öman. Combining Andreas Öman's throat with the fast guitar-riffs and the furiously pounding drums, the music developed into a harder, faster in-your-face death/thrash metal. After some months of rehearsing and a couple of gigs Searing I recorded the four-track Demo A Treacherous Ride. In 2004 the Tons Of Hate Demo was recorded. This Demo gave the band an opportunity to sign a record deal with Black Lotus Records for three full-length albums. The debut album titled Bloodshred was recorded and mixed in the spring of 2005 at Blueflame Productions Studio in Uppsala by Teddy Möller(Loch Vostok) and Niklas Kupper(Loch Vostok). Later the same year Marcus Olofsson (guitar) decided to leave the band. Niklas Kupper who already was familiar with the songs and sound of Searing I replaced Marcus. Bloodshred was released in 30 countries and has gained a lot of good reviews. It has been played on the radio in several countries all around the world. In the spring of 2006 Black Lotus announced that the label would cease to exist and that they would end their collaboration with all the bands signed to the label. Searing I is at the present time without a recording deal but with material for a full-length album. Plans for recording are set to early spring 2007.

Bloodshred songs
$10.39 Death by Stereo's Into the Valley of Death picks up where 2002's Day of the Death left off. The band marries metal's neck-snapping, double-bass rhythms to the consciousness (or just plain anger) of punk and hardcore, pummeling themselves and the listener with serious intensity. Opener "The Plague" is as scary as its title. After a foreboding instrumental intro, the song explodes into lockstep hardcore behind the half-sung, half-screamed vocals of Efrem Schultz. Throughout the album, it's Schultz's over-sung, yet oddly convincing vocal presence that unites Death by Stereo's concurrent metal and punk rock influences. If the question of what Iron Maiden and Agnostic Front would sound like as one band was ever raised, this band answers it. But despite its aggressive sound, Death by Stereo has always peppered its albums with satirical humor. Into the Valley of Death continues this tradition, with songs like "I Wouldn't Piss in Your Ear if Your ...
| | Tiles Window Dressing CDs (2004) Limited Edition; Special Edition
Bloodshred album
$17.49 On their fourth album, Tiles continue to demonstrate that progressive rock doesn't have to mean either goofy pseudo-mysticism or wanky bloviation. That's not to say that these guys are exactly concise -- the album's title track runs over 17 minutes -- but they generally avoid the standard prog rock trap of trying to impress through empty grandiosity. Even when their songs are on the long side, they're skillfully and tightly crafted and the playing is disciplined and interesting. That's especially true on the instrumentals; "Stop Gap" and "Unicornicopia," both of which feature guest violinist Matthew Parmenter, offer spikily complex rock and nicely unsentimental neoclassicism, respectively, and are among the album's more impressive and enjoyable moments, and "A.02" is a lovely little new acoustic miniature. As for the songs, the metal-flavored "Paintings" and "Capture the Flag" are both enjoyably dense and crunchy and feature fine, clear singing by Paul Rarick. Overall, this is an album that will likely appeal equally to aging Jethro Tull fans and thirtysomething King's X fans alike. Recommended. ~ Rick Anderson
