| | More Of Funk Comes A-Live! CD
This seamless collection of 1980s funk brings together cuts from such luminaries as the Ohio Players, Cameo, and ConFunkShun, and features classics like the Dazz Band's "Let It Whip" and George Clinton's "Make My Funk the P-Funk." It's an opportunity to experience ConFunkShun's languid, romantic "Straight from the Heart," as well as to witness Clinton's raw funk influence on Cameo's "Back and Forth," which still sounds as commercial and enjoyable as it did in the early '80s--but most of all it's a chance to reconnect with your bad self, and get down on it. More Of Funk Comes A-Live! CD music
$12.29 Buzz Factory would mark the Screaming Trees' final recording for SST, but not their last stand as independent recording artists. They would follow up by spending some quality time with Seattle indie Sub Pop, prior to the release of their Epic debut, Uncle Anesthesia, two years later. Produced by the Trees and Jack Endino (Superfuzz Bigmuff, Bleach), Buzz Factory lives up to its title with buzz aplenty courtesy Gary Lee Conner's muscular guitar playing. ...

| | Kaada Thank You For Giving Me Your Valuable Time CD (2003)
More Of Funk Comes A-Live! album
$13.95 Originally released in 2001, this is the debut album by mysterious Norwegian producer/multi-instrumentalist/sampling whiz Kaada. Despite being widely hailed by critics in Scandinavia, it took Ipecac Records, who discovered the album via an unsolicited copy, for it to finally get a U.S. release in 2003. It's a fitting match, since this album has the same kind of warm, reverb-y production that Ipecac head honcho Mike Patton often favors (see Fantomas' Director's Cut), and has a collage-type avant-garde pop/rock feel that's not a million miles away from something like Director's Cut or Mr. Bungle's California. Then again, it's certainly not beholden to those influences either: the main inspirations here seem to be hip-hop (especially in terms of the production) and old American R&B and soul music, combined with an unusually user-friendly experimental streak. Basically, Kaada takes isolated samples and loops from old recordings, mixes them together with live instruments and (sometimes) vocals, and creates ...

| | Towa Tei Last Century Modern CD (1999)
More Of Funk Comes A-Live! music CDs
$6.09 This is an Enhanced audio CD which contains regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files.
As the former DJ for former eclectic dance-pop outfit Deee-Lite, Towa Tei cut his teeth on the international lifestyle the group maintained. He channels that experience in LAST CENTURY MODERN. Tei's fascination with bossa nova is elaborated on here, as is the polyglot foundation upon which his edifice rests--building blocks of polka, lounge music, R&B, and drum-n-bass. This hyper-hybrid combination of various pop forms comes totally naturally to Tei.
The first half of the album is sweet future-pop built from catchy samples and double-time drum rolls, such as "Angel," which breaks down into a dark drum-n-bass tune, and "Congratulations!" which features a sample about "the finest turntable in the world" looped over kitsch bachelor pad beats. The second half of the album ...
