| | John 5 Songs For Sanity CD John 5 Discography of CDs
(3 Customer Reviews)
As a hired gun for such renowned hard rockers as Rob Halford, David Lee Roth, and Marilyn Manson, guitarist John5 got to show his six-string skills -- but only to a degree. With the focus mainly on songwriting, he wasn't able to shred away at will. This all changed when John5 started issuing solo albums, such as his 2005 effort, Songs for Sanity. Issued a year after 2004's Vertigo, his debut for Shrapnel (a label known mostly for instrumental metal guitar releases), John5 returned with an album that proved even more diverse than its predecessor. For longtime fans, John5's ability to tackle a wide variety of music shouldn't come as much of a surprise, as he's also appeared alongside k.d. lang and Leah Andreone. Still, it's a downright hoot to hear a supposed metal guitarist playing bluegrass licks, as he does on the tracks "Fiddlers" and the album opening "Perenium" (which features a guest spot by none other than Albert Lee). John5 also shows off his love of country even further on "Behind the Nut Love," a track on which he replicates the sound of pedal steel guitar. But Songs for Sanity is certainly not all for the cowboy hat/boot-wearing crowd, as evidenced by the simply shredding on "Blues Balls," as well as a rocking track that features a cameo by Steve Vai on "Perenium." Although he may wear ghoulish make-up and attire, Songs for Sanity proves once again that you should never judge a book by its cover. ~ Greg Prato

| Songs For Sanity Music Review Average Rating: (5 out of 5 stars) A candy for the ears I bought this cd the day that it was released and I loved it so much. JOHN 5 deserves 5 stars JOHN 5 - Songs for Sanity. So far this century has seen a huge decline in new guitar gods. John 5 may very well be the best new guitarist of this century.
Besides playing with M. MANSON and DAVID LEE ROTH, John also toured with ROB ZOMBIE. JOHN 5 absolutley loves his instrument and it's clear the hours this man has spent studying and learning his instrument. The relationship between man and his instrument have been famed all throughout history. JOHN 5 has made history with this classic/classy release. He shreds,he slows down,he changes pace,he changes style( sorta in the vein of SATRIANI). It's all here every sound any hard rock guitar fan would want. No vocals except for some speaking parts and even they are short. I might add that they are a nice touch to a smoking guitar only release from the best guitarist of this century. A must have cd, Absolute Perfection! Songs For Sanity is one of the best Guitar CD'S ever, and puts John5 in the same stratosphere as Steve Vai,Zak Wylde, and others. Along with all the other work john has done in the Studio and on tours,His Unwavering passion for playing and every evolving Styles is unmatched in the last ten years. Listening to the songs for sanity cd helped me through a real trying time in my life, with the sudden death of a very close Family member. I would listen at least 2 times a day, and still do. Songs For Sanity album
$6.39 This audio document of The Corrs' Dublin homecoming concert has pretty much everything fans of Irish pop could wish for, including an appearance from Bono in his earthly incarnation, fresh from an audience with President George W. Bush. It's to the band's credit that the charismatic singer fails to steal the show, despite creditable efforts via an anthemized version of Ryan Adams' beautifully downtempo "When the Stars Go Blue," and a great, leering rendition of Lee Hazlewood ...

Songs For Sanity album
$11.49 Anamnesis: Ecumenical Mysteries was Yugoslavian saxophonist/composer Boris Kovac's first release out of Europe (on the Canadian label Disques Victo). It was also his first work recorded in Yugoslavia following the war that forced him to an Italian exile for a few years. Back in his native town Novi Sad, he reformed his Ritual Nova Ensemble (disbanded by the war) and composed this suite in four parts and three intermezzos. The music does not have the same power of impact and emotional strength as his next ...
| | Pure Trance 2 CD (2003)
Songs For Sanity CD music
$15.35 With its lame artwork and K-Tel-like boast of "18 More Chart-Topping Dance Floor Hits!" Pure Trance, Vol. 2 looks like a stinker that other bandwagon-jumping labels would bother to dress up a little more. Water Music should enlist at least one of the many rave-flyer designing iMac users because the collection does a decent job of collecting credible trance. DJ Tiësto, Armin van Buuren, and Paul van Dyk are some of the big names who contribute a tune or remix, and the guest vocals of Sinéad O'Connor, Clannad, and Natacha Atlas sweeten the deal. Some of the lesser tracks try to get away with the idea that five notes and a clever sample of some woman babbling about something really trippy is enough. Luckily there's always a strong number like George Acosta's "Secret Memory" or Sasha's "Xpander" around the corner. The real bad news is that most tracks run below four minutes and feel positively hacked. If there's a need for an unmixed, "radio version" collection of trance, then Pure Trance, Vol. 2 succeeds. Those with healthier attention spans should ...

Songs For Sanity music CDs
$8.25 Seedy GonzalesJohnny Riley - vocalsJason Orans - guitar, vocalsBrian Devine - drums, vocalsJack Devine - guitar, bass, everything elseThe Story of Seedy, Part One: The Seedy Gonzales EPThere are serial killers, serial novels, serial poets-and now with the Seedy Gonzales self-titled debut EP, a serial record with a little bit of killer (of time, anyway), novelist and poet among its five tracks. The first of a two-part series, Seedy Gonzales embodies a laid-back "downtown" vibe, a literate-but-not-literal look at city life through the eyes of a sad, cheeky poet. It is, to be sure, exactly what you'd expect from "a cranky ex-pat writer from Prague [singer Johnny Riley] who sings like Lou Reed" and "a New York filmmaker who sings like Lou Barlow [singer-guitarist Jason Orans]."Riley, Orans and drummer Brian Devine met in Los Angeles while they were all working in the film industry. After losing touch for some years, Devine and Orans discovered they had both relocated to NYC. Devine was playing in his other project, Spanish Speaking Psychics with his cousin Jack; Orans and Riley were co-writing songs across the Atlantic while Riley observed a self-imposed exile in the Czech Republic. When Riley came Stateside to visit, Devine dragged his friends into the studio. It was just fun at first. "Next thing we knew," Orans recalls, "we had an album."They had tracked five tunes: A Stones-meets-Junior Kimbrough number "Just Killin' Time (Before Time Kills Me)," the Reed-y story-songs "Italian in NY" and "Maddie's Day," the brooding "Kerouac & Burroughs" and "Love's Theosophy" (an adaptation of Percy ...
