| | Old 97's Alive & Wired CD Old 97's Discography of CDs
(7 Customer Reviews)
One of the flagship bands of the '90s alt-country scene, the Old 97's never quite achieved the godhead status of Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, et al., possibly because their brand of roots-rock always bore more growl than twang. Though their eventual bid at major-label success and leader Rhett Miller's grab for the Ryan Adams solo-artist brass ring both fell short, they went on to perfect their craft even further, as exemplified by ALIVE & WIRED. This 2005 live record finds the band's brash mix of punky energy, sharp songwriting, and plaintive Americana at its most fully realized, before an enthusiastic audience in the highly appropriate venue of Texas's legendary Gruene Hall.

Alive & Wired Music Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews Not as good as the live DVD This is a bargain at 2 cd's for one low price, but I think that the live DVD rocks harder. They are definately worth seeing live. Submitted by teacher-leader (Louisville, KY USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
High Energy The Old 97's are a great band, especially live. Their songs are just fun, with intriguing lyrics, and lots of energy. If you have seen them perform, you can picture this live album. All four of the Old 97's are fantastic musicians. Submitted by lmoneal (Austin, TX) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
better live impression that DVD There is something off on the sound & production on the live DVD, but the CD gets it right.. best live show of the band available to date.. officially that is Submitted by pepe (chicago) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

great songs great sound Having heard all pervious recording and being at this show. This recording catches much of the engery of that hot summer night when you crank up the volume. I cann't think of another band that can release a double CD and after a few listens you can sing along with nearly every song. Submitted by Tom (Houston, Tx USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Alive & Wired album
$8.99 After working his way through loss and chaos on the brilliant TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT (recorded in 1973, but not released until 1975), Neil Young deftly exorcised any lingering demons with 1974's ON THE BEACH. The album opens with the saunter of the aptly titled "Walk On," followed by the utterly gorgeous, Wurlitzer-tinged "See the Sky about to Rain."
The set also features a trio of scathing songs--"Revolution Blues," "Vampire Blues," and "Ambulance Blues"--that address issues important to Young, both social and personal. It is good to hear Young back with such bite and vitriol, especially after the broken desperation ...
| | Warren Zevon Wind CD (2003)
Alive & Wired CD music
$15.09 THE WIND won the 2004 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album. "Keep Me in Your Heart" was nominated for Song Of The Year and for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. "Disorder in the House" won for Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and was also nominated for Best Rock Song.
With the specter of a terminal lung cancer diagnosis hanging over his head, Warren Zevon responded by rallying to make THE WIND, an album that found him working with longtime collaborator and friend Jorge Calderon, shortly after getting the news. The result is a tight group of 11 songs wrapped up in a year, despite a diagnosis that only gave Zevon three months to live. Along the way, plenty of famous names--both friends and fans--pitched in, including Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Emmylou Harris, Jackson Browne, Dwight Yoakam and Don Henley. Allusions to his situation are naturally sprinkled throughout, ...
| | Bottle Rockets Blue Sky CD (2003)
Alive & Wired music CDs
$9.55 In 2002, guitarist Tom Parr dropped out of the Bottle Rockets while they were touring in support of their Doug Sahm tribute disc, Songs of Sahm, and while their rough-hewn roadhouse rock & roll (with a country twang around the edges) had been the focal point of previous albums, their first set as a three-piece, Blue Sky, finds Brian Henneman and his pals turning down the amps and aiming for a quieter, more rootsy sound. With Henneman handling the guitar duties by his lonesome on most cuts (co-producer and Gov't Mule frontman Warren Haynes pitches in on a few songs, as does former Blood Oranges axeman Mark Spencer), Blue Sky aims for a laid-back vibe that's much more country than rock, and with a bit more polish, it's not hard to imagine easygoing tunes like "Men & Women," "Man of Constant Anxiety," or the title cut finding a happy home on country radio with their simple hooks and regular-guy philosophy. But that's not to say Henneman's gone soft, or that Blue Sky is meek or toothless; "Lucky Break"'s tale of a guy who's finally getting a vacation ...

| | Billy Joel Greatest Hits Vol. 3 CD (1997)
Alive & Wired music CDs
$6.85 In his own inimitable fashion, Billy Joel has crafted some of the catchiest pop hits of the '80s and '90s, and most of them--17, to be exact--are on this disc. The jaunty, nostalgic "Keeping the Faith" opens things up, and we cruise right down memory lane with Billy: through the pop-soul of "A Matter of Trust," the brash, rocking "I Go to Extremes" and "All About Soul" (remixed here to good effect). Joel has grown over the course of his long career, and you can trace his maturity as an artist through these later songs. The
