Chicago singer-songwriter Martha Berner's debut full-length takes her self-penned, acoustic-based songs as its foundation, subtly incorporating rock and alt-country influences into an entertaining set that features both sunny and broodingly personal material. "... a joyous marriage of American folk, alt-country and indie-rock that reaches far beyond just the sense of hearing. This is music with tasteful arrangements, lyrics that touch both heart and mind and hauntingly beautiful songs scented with the essence of femininity" - ConcertLivewire With a wellspring of captivating songs that dig deep into the soul of American roots music, while also interjecting a distinct modern rock flavor, Chicago singer/songwriter Martha Berner has successfully melded old and new into a timeless collection of indie folk-rock on her full-length debut album entitled ...this side of yesterday....this side of yesterday was recorded in Lexington, KY, as well as Lake Geneva and Madison, WI and co-produced by Duane Lundy, Todd Bowie and Grammy nominated Jake Johnson. While Martha is showcased as an accomplished vocalist, her talents are also evident on acoustic guitar, cornet and harmonica - which, at times, lend comparisons to Bob Dylan, Natalie Merchant and John Lennon's post-Beatles material. Far from a solo project Martha has also incorporated a wealth of talented musicians who add vibrantly colored arrangements to songs that range from harrowing alt-country to upbeat folk-rock. Maybe it's her nomadic way of life (calling destinations such as Chicago, San Francisco, Alaska, Israel, the Virgin Islands, Thailand and Williams Bay, WI all home at some point) that lends such a worldly knowledge to both her thought-provoking lyrics and touching music. Or maybe it's her lifelong passion for music (with influences as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Tori Amos and the Violent Femmes), but whatever the reason, the end result on ...this side of yesterday is a wonderfully mature and engaging collection of music that manages to affect all of the senses. John Denver's music always had a warm, home-spun quality to it, so it isn't surprising that his 1975 holiday effort, Rocky Mountain Christmas, is a wonderfully low-key and friendly Christmas album. Divided between classic carols and new numbers, such as the fine "Aspenglow" and "Christmas for Cowboys," the album is an appealing, pretty record, perfect for late nights by the fireside. The 1998 CD reissue adds five bonus tracks: "Jingle Bells," "White Christmas," ...

This Side Of Yesterday album
$14.99 DARK SIDE OF THE MOON was a benchmark record. It turned the musical world on its ear with a hitherto unseen combination of sounds, and changed things considerably for Pink Floyd. For this project, Pink Floyd resurrected older and unfinished numbers, some of which came from the multitude of soundtracks the band members had previously worked on. The film ZABRISKIE POINT, a study of American materialism from a foreigner's perspective, provided "Us and Them" (originally titled "The ...
