The winning combination of John Madden, composer Stephen Warbeck, and Gwyneth Paltrow -- they struck Oscar gold in 1998 with Shakespeare in Love -- reunite for the psychological drama Proof. Warbeck, an ace comedy composer, has constructed a score that's as warm as it is wistful and as lush as it is brooding. The main cue is a taut midtempo exercise in Philip Glass minimalism that utilizes a repetitive Bill Frisell-style guitar line wrapped in layers of dramatic strings. It's far more refreshing than it sounds in print, and Warbeck never lets things go on too long. Proof may be a slow burn, but much like his other work with Madden (Captain Corelli's Mandolin, Shakespeare in Love, and Mrs. Brown), it leaves a scar. ~ James Christopher Monger

Yola was Eleanor McEvoy's follow-up to the lavishly produced pop record Snapshots, but the two records could hardly be farther apart in instrumentation. Recorded semi-live, set entirely in sparse piano-guitar-and-drum arrangements, and conceptually centered around McEvoy's partnership with classically trained pianist Brian Connor, Yola seems to find its guiding principle in its final song, which celebrates "something so wonderful, something so pure." The purity of the arrangements is indeed wonderful. McEvoy sings "Seasoned Love" in a piano-only performance that ...

$14.35 The producers were wise in their choosing of James Newton Howard to compose the score for P.J. Hogan's big screen rendering of J.M. Barrie's famous children's book, Peter Pan. The former Elton John keyboardist's work on M. Night Shyamalan's Sixth Sense and Signs showcased his ability to blend suspense and whimsy, and skillfully paint a scene from a child actor's point of view. For Peter Pan, Howard builds the dreamy world of "Neverland" with harps, choirs, and the occasional keyboard flourish, fleshing out the characters with fairy tale precision, and creating a believable realm in the same fashion that John Williams handled the magical world of Harry Potter. The string motifs he chooses for Wendy and Peter are steeped in the bittersweet confusion of sexual awakening, and the eternally youthful Lost Boys are treated with a light hand, hinting at their enviable immortality. "Howard" goes to great lengths to capture the myth of Peter Pan, never dumbing it down. His is a darker take on a story that has spent years in the hands of cartoonists, and it delivers the tale a much-needed edge. ~ James Christopher Monger

$11.49 A half-caucasian, half-Spaniard born bilingual singer and writer, she walked into a little studio in the Dope House Records warehouse with DFO Music Group back in 2001 hoping to record a demo to shop to some record labels. Five years later, she had worked with several Dope House artists in Houston, Texas, and is now recognized for her features on South Park Mexican\'s recent billboard-topping release \"When Devils Strike\". Carolyn Rodriguez is originally from North Carolina but came to Sam Houston State University in and graduated with an Accounting degree. There was an undeniable force that pulled her to Dope House Records.DFO Music Group, headed by Jaime \"Pain\" Ortiz, was the production team that helped get Carolyn to that window of opportunity with SPM. \"When Pain said \'he wants to hear you sing and try you out on a hook\', I was wondering if he would even like my voice. After the first one he told me \'I want you on ALL my hooks. You got that gangsta soul\". After sealing a strong partnership with SPM and Juan Gotti on numerous songs, DFO was ready to sprinkle Carolyn Rodriguez on everyone\'s album. The Latin Urban music scene is about to embrace a new face with a new sound. Carolyn Rodriguez released her first solo album "Castellana" September 24, 2007 through DFO Music ...
