| | Meows At The Top Of The Bottom CD - Import Meows Discography of CDs
If the Meows ever put on some dresses and makeup, they'd be the New York Dolls. Okay, maybe they weren't quite as goofy as David Johannsen's crew, but frontman Enric Bossner and his crew can crank out the new wave pop/punk with the best of 'em.
Straight outta Barcelona, The Meows really get the fur flyin' on this 13 track ode to kittens-with-claws and real cool cats. The Meows sound is big beat trash n' roll, fueled by slinky 60's fuzz punk guitars, handclaps, and the infectiously rabble-rousing vox of the singularly named Francis, a strutting rock n' roll ego star of considerable charm and flawless delivery. Tracks like the hip-shaking title song, the Sex Pistols-copping 'Don't Burn Baby', the 60's go-go revivalist tambourine abuser 'Hear Me Say', and the stripped down thrill boogie of 'Function At The Junction' and perfect slices of radio ready summertime hits guaranteed to keep the endless party rolling on until September, or until the cops show up, which ever comes first! At The Top Of The Bottom album
$9.55 Susan Boyle's grand unveiling on Britain's Got Talent was with a song from Les Miserables - the very song that lends this album its title -- and if she could become an international sensation based on a show tune standard, there's no reason for her to change her approach on her debut, since that's the sound that made her a star. Plus, a large part of Boyle's appeal is that she's a middle-aged woman recalling a bygone era when there were singers that appealed to an adult audience by offering soft, stately versions of pop hits and standards. That time was the late `60s and early `70s, and apart from a rather faithful version of Madonna's "You'll See," I Dreamed a Dream could very well have been released all those years ago, as it mixes up the show tunes, gospel, and Christmas carols with covers of Skeeter Davis' "The End of the World," the Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses," and a version of "Daydream Believer" that is easily the slowest on record. Boyle sings beautifully throughout, delivering more of the same of what she did in her moment in the sun on television. Those won over by Boyle, either her voice or story, will surely be satisfied. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine
There's no question that Susan Boyle's ...
| | Jimmy Buffett Buffet Hotel CD (2009)
At The Top Of The Bottom CD music
$9.74 Since Jimmy Buffett never leaves his comfort zone, it's hard to call 2009's Buffet Hotel a return to roots but, in a way, it is. Discounting the mock rap on "Turn Up the Heat and Chill the Rosé," this album doesn't even have the lingering country and reggae flavors that seasoned 2006's Take the Weather with You, with all of the songs riding a cool, mellow country-rock wave, the kind that has been his stock-in-trade since the `70s. There's a difference between being part of a tradition and being stuck in the past and Buffett is surely in the former, not shying away from the new millennial mess, admitting that we all have "A Lot to Drink About" and never flinching from his advancing years, most movingly on a cover of Bruce Cockburn's "Life's Short Call Now." Cockburn's song is paired with another expertly chosen cover, Jesse Winchester's "Rhumba Man" (he covered Winchester's "Nothin' But a Breeze" the album before), but this has the highest percentage of original Buffett compositions since ...
| | Pink Funhouse CD (2008) Explicit
At The Top Of The Bottom music CDs
$8.99 Pink's insistently hooky, attitude-filled pop-rock has kept the singer a fixture on the radio and on singles charts since the early 2000s. The artist's fifth effort, FUNHOUSE, doesn't tamper with the formula: Pink's powerhouse vocals and in-your-face approach, backed by stadium-sized production, are in full effect on all 12 tracks. Even though the album deals primarily with aftermath of her divorce and includes serious moments of self-confrontation like "Sober," fans needn't worry that Pink has lost any of her chutzpah.
If anything, there's an increased sense of confidence and newfound liberation on tracks like the chest-thumping "So What" and the mischievous, ...
| | Very Best Of Lou Monte CD (1997)
At The Top Of The Bottom songs
$15.29 Digitally remastered by Eliot Goshman (1996 BMG Studios, New York, New York).
Lou Monte, the king of the Italian-American novelty song, is well represented on this career-spanning anthology that contains selections from his terms with RCA Victor, Roulette and Reprise, including all of his Top 100 hits. Only a couple of ballads interrupt an otherwise non-stop program of novelties, many of which are Italian remakes of popular songs such as "(At The) Darktown Strutters' Ball" and "The Sheik of Araby." ...
| | Bon Jovi Circle CD (2009)
At The Top Of The Bottom album
$11.17 Bon Jovi's 2007 effort, LOST HIGHWAY, found New Jersey's finest brandishing a Nashville-tinged, commercial rock/country crossover sound that wasn't too far a stretch from their usual arena rocking anthems for the Everyman. And where that album sometimes tried too hard to fit into the conventions of trad country, sacrificing some of the fist-pumping potency of their best `90s-era efforts in the process, THE CIRCLE, the band's fifth studio effort of the `00s, is a back-to-roots return to form focused on uplifting hooks and a hard-hitting guitar rock energy. Once again teaming up with producer John Shanks, who also worked the band's previous two albums, Bon Jovi relay the struggles and upheavals of the common man on lead single "We Weren't Born to Follow."

$10.95 Seattle's Tooth & Nail has developed a reputation as the home for positive-thinking, hookalicious pop-punk and alternative combos, many sporting fancy haircuts and a Christian-influenced worldview. Anberlin fits this mold. Led by the soaring, slightly froggy-voiced vocals of Stephen Christian, the band also includes Joseph Milligan (guitar), Nathan Young (drums), Joey Bruce (guitar), ...
