| | Steve Cole Ny La CD (2003)
Texas Hold'Em CD music
$9.09 Burgeoning smooth jazz superstar Steve Cole continues to bridge the gap between pop-jazz and classic R&B on his third studio album, NY LA. Featuring strong melodic statements and truly funky keyboards via the likes of Brian Culbertson and Marquis "Hami" Dair, NY LA is a moody and solid affair. From the disco-influenced "Off Broadway," which harkens back to the best work of the Crusaders, to the Donald Byrd-esque "Interlude IV," tenor saxophonist Cole deftly crosses the boundary from jazz soloist to R&B heavyweight. ...
| | Steve Oliver 3D CD (2004)
Texas Hold'Em music CDs
$14.45 As one reviewer said of the cheerful music and personality of this increasingly popular voice of smooth jazz guitar, it's Disneyland all the time with him. In other words, Positive Energy, the name of his second genre disc, wasn't just a happy marketing tool. And the title of this disc is appropriate, too, because with the co-production help of founding Spyro Gyra keyboardist Tom Schuman, Oliver digs deep into a rich variety of influences for a multifaceted romp through the worlds of pop, jazz, urban/hip-hop, worldbeat, Brazilian, and Latin music. While focusing as always on his classic acoustic guitar and brilliant "vocalese" to convey the lead melodies on the instrumentals, ...
| | Jeff Kashiwa Peace Of Mind CD (2004)
Texas Hold'Em songs
$12.39 Jeff Kashiwa has a fluent if generic style on soprano, alto, and tenor, which fits perfectly into the "feel good" smooth music that he performs on "Peace of Mind." The 11 selections clock in between 3:46 and 5:14 and were clearly recorded with hopes of getting maximum radio airplay. Kashiwa's rhythm section is effective if anonymous (despite the presence of Brian Bromberg on bass) with the focus being almost entirely on the leader's melodic playing. While ...
| | Norman Brown West Coast Coolin' CD (2004)
Texas Hold'Em album
$8.39 As one of the six-string lite-jazz inheritors of the Wes Montgomery guitar-jazz mantle, Norman Brown continues to bridge the worlds of musical improvisation and contemporary R&B via the crisp WEST COAST COOLIN'. In following up the success of 2002's JUST CHILLIN', the Louisiana native continues to infuse more soul nuances into his music by recruiting producers James Poyser and Vikter Dupliax, better known for working with neo-soul stalwarts Jill Scott, D'Angelo, and Erykah Badu. The result is an airy yet intricate romp that ...
| | Brian Culbertson It's On Tonight CD (2005)
Texas Hold'Em CD music
$11.99 With its seething, laid-back funk beats and steamy lyrics full of obvious references to romantic trysts, it doesn't get any sexier than Brian Culbertson's IT'S ON TONIGHT. A number of prominent crossover jazz artist lend their talents here. For example, the downtempo title track features a sensual R&B vocal from singer Will Downing. ...

| | Velvet Underground Bootleg Series, Vol. 1: The Quine Tapes CDs (2001) Remastered; Box Set
Texas Hold'Em album
$21.89 Recorded live at The Family Dog, San Francisco, California in November 1969, The Matrix, San Francisco, California in November & December 1969, and Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri in May 1969. Includes liner notes
Digitally remastered by Jeff Willens (Universal Mastering Studios-East).
In the '80s, former Richard Hell guitarist Robert Quine hooked up with Lou Reed for a critically acclaimed batch of albums regarded by many as the Velvet Underground visionary's finest solo works. However, this was not the first time Quine and Reed's paths had crossed. In 1969, young Velvets fan Quine surreptitiously ...
| | Joelle Leandre Out Of Sound CD (2002)
Texas Hold'Em CD music
$15.05 Prior to this release, Lauren Newton had been rather quiet, especially when compared to her recorded output from the early to mid-'90s. It seems she had been busy stripping down her vocal art, exploring more quiet and abstract forms. Out of Sound finds her in great company with bassist Joëlle Léandre and saxophonist Urs Leimgruber, who himself has been applying more restraint on his playing to reach new levels of intensity (see the magnificent CD Wing Vane with Jacques Demierre and Barre Phillips). Recorded in a German studio on March 16, 2001, this album presents a collection of short improvisations dealing with the grey area where silence and sound meet, where music still takes an undefined shape, although not completely immersing itself in microsound aesthetics. Outbursts are rare ("Trio Boom" is one eloquent exception) and ...
| | Leni Stern Love Comes Quietly CD (2006) Digipak
Texas Hold'Em music CDs
$12.15 Acclaimed singer/songwriter/guitarist Leni Stern has completed her most intense and revealing collection of songs to-date. With the May 2nd release of "Love Comes Quietly," Stern showcases her uncanny ability to paint extraordinary images amid familiar and exotic backdrops alike. The album opens with 'Cheyenne', a rumination on Native American culture, and the destruction and disrepair embodied by the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation. Stern sings to an apparition, "all I'd ask for is water, send us water..." amid the haunting violins of Ernesto Villa-Lobos. On 'Inshaallah', arguably the album's centerpiece, Brahim Fribgane's Oud performance augments Stern's richly layered song, written about and for the people of the desert in Essakane, Africa. Stern recently performed at Mali's Festival in the Desert, and a photo journal of her experiences is to appear in the May issue of Guitar Player Magazine. On 'Have Faith In Me', Stern talks of "walking the line between reason and insanity." With backing vocals by Audrey Martell and a guitar solo by Stern, this new track is one of many which highlight Stern's evolution as a songwriter and guitarist. The 13-song CD draws upon influences as far-ranging as Africa and India, and its combination of instrumental and vocal tracks reveal Stern's growing World Music influences. On "Reseke Bare Tore Nain", for example, she features the haunting vocals ...
