Live album
$11.35 NIGHT CASTLE appears just in time for the big 2009 holiday season but don't be fooled: this isn't a Christmas album, even if it's sonically indistinguishable from Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other seasonal releases, and the fact that it's been dubbed "Capra-esque" certainly brings it within the realm of the season. NIGHT CASTLE brims with all the drama, pomp, and circumstance of Trans-Siberian Orchestra's other records but channeling these traits through a newly created narrative does have the effect of hearing it in a somewhat new light, shifting the focus entirely to the band's attack, not melody. Still, there's not that much new here -- and the coda of seasonal covers, including the first sober version of "Nutrocker" ever cut, doesn't do much to break that spell. But for those already enchanted by the Orchestra, this will continue to enthrall.

| | Bob Dylan Christmas In The Heart CD (2009)
Live CD music
$12.85 After the initial shock fades, the existence of CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART seems perhaps inevitable. After all, the thing Bob Dylan loves most of all are songs that are handed down from generation to generation, songs that are part of the American fabric, songs so common they never seem to have been written. These are the songs Dylan chooses to sing on CHRISTMAS IN THE HEART, a cheerfully old-fashioned holiday album from its Norman Rockwell-esque cover to its joyous backing vocals. Apart from the breakneck "Must ...

| | Pink Martini Splendor In The Grass CD (2009) Digipak
Live CD music
$13.39 Pink Martini follow the around-the-world-in-a-dozen-songs thrills of HEY EUGENE! with SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS, a mellower, simpler set of small pleasures. These are relative terms, however; the group's music is still well-traveled, with China Forbes singing in five languages (English, Spanish, Neapolitan, French, and Italian) instead of the six or so on EUGENE!. However, Pink Martini opt for a more unified sound here, one that draws on the more straightforward lounge-pop of their debut, SYMPATHIQUE, and the mellowness of '60s and '70s pop. SPLENDOR IN THE GRASS' first half is especially smooth, opening with the beautifully soft Neapolitan ballad "Ninna Nanna" and the title track, on which Forbes sings "I think we should take it slow" over swooping strings, brass, and piano that resurrect the glory days of AM pop; that feeling is echoed by the cover of Joe Raposo's "Sing," the Sesame Street song that gained popularity ...

| | Susana Baca Eco De Sombras CD (2000)
Live music CDs
$12.05 On this record Susana Baca delivers yet another solid example of why she is the queen of Afro-Peruvian music. These songs drift by like time in a crowded dirt-floor bar, like the hard sweet-sour of well-made cuba libre. A band composed mostly of well-schooled New York session players provides competent backing. Baca's voice is smooth, her songs and world darkly sinister. ...
| | Nelsonics CD (2002)
Live songs
$9.59 You can't help but get moving when the Nelsonics take the stage. Their infectious sound combines influences ranging from 60's mod to surf rock into one soulful go-go groove. Tiki Tone Records released the band's debut CD in 2002 which received rave reviews for its blend of instrumental grooves, organ-based R&B, Latin rhythms, big beat hooks and reverb-drenched guitar. Hammondbeat Records is proud to reissue this record now with the brand new song "Dousman Street" to celebrate the event! For ...

| | Saratoga Faire Saratoga Romance CD (2009)
Live CD music
$15.19 Saratoga Faire consists of Frank Orsini, Lise Winne, Jeff Belding and Jim Lestrange. John Cromie and Rick Eckberg are guest performers on a few tracks and also occasionally appear in live concerts with Saratoga Faire. John Kribs recorded and mixed the CD at Blue Line Records. Saratoga Faire formed at the Dance Flurry Festival in Saratoga Springs, NY and the title track, a waltz written by Jeff Belding is homage to that fact. Frank Orsini's contributions on the CD include violin, viola, mandolin and vocals. He is a member of several bands including The Whippersnappers (look for their CD at: http://www.cdbaby.com/Artist/TheWhipperSnappers) with George Wilson and Peter Davis. He also appears as a studio musician on a number of other CDs. Look for Frank's other contributions on these CD Baby artists' CDs: http://www.cdbaby.com/Search/RnJhbmsgT3JzaW5p/0. Frank has also recorded and toured with hammered dulcimer player, Walt Michael, and has played in bands with bluegrass legend, Bill Keith. Lise Winne's contributions to the CD include vocals, guitar, Irish whistle and some song writing. She has a number of CDs on CD Baby including best seller, "Wing'd With Hopes, New Interpretations of Renaissance Songs" with The Spirites Consort (Renaissance category) and "The Goldenrod" (which has been on the editor's pick in the New Age Adult Alternative category at CD Baby). Lise won a grant from the New York Foundation for the Arts to record "The Goldenrod" and has opened for artists Rory Block and Meg Hutchinson. Jeff Belding's contributions include guitars, percussion, keyboards, electric bass and some of the songwriting (including the title track). Jeff studied music at The Boston Conservatory of Music, The New England Conservatory of Music and The College of Saint Rose. He also studied banjo with Bill Keith and Roger Sprung and won a banjo contest (judged by Tony Trishka). He is also a member of several other bands including The Spirites Consort (Renaissance) and Out of the Bluegrass (bluegrass). Jim Lestrange contributes hammered dulcimer, electric bass, guitar, vocals and some of the songwriting. He is the former member of a number of bands including Skuttlebutt, Hilltop String Band and Prograss. He started his musical career as the back-up guitarist for Lawrence Older, the Adirondack minstrel. Guest artist, John Cromie plays Irish whistle on "The Water is Wide". Rick Eckberg contributes double bass to "Bonny Portmore" and "Far Away". This CD was made simply without Protools, Performer, Auto-tune or other recording studio bells and whistles. What you hear is just us, just our voices and instruments. SYNOPSIS OF THE SONGS: BRIAN BORU'S MARCH II: this is a traditional Irish tune and is less familiar than the other tune by the same name. This is the version also used by Bill Spence and the Fennig's Allstars. SILKIE: a traditional Irish (Celtic) song about shape shifting from seal to human. Think "The Secret of Roan Inish" in song format. THE FOUNTAIN: an instrumental written by band member, Jeff Belding, inspired by the spring-fed fountains of Saratoga Springs, NY. BONNY PORTMORE: a traditional Irish (Celtic) song about the trees of Ireland being cut by the ...
