The self-described symphonic goth metal of Sweden's Beseech has heretofore stayed remarkably consistent, considering the level of personnel turmoil the band has been through since their 1995 debut. Now expanded to a septet from their original five-man lineup, Sunless Days finds the band more comfortably integrating their two most recent arrivals, singers Erik Molarin and Lotta Höglin, into the familiar Beseech sound, and the changes, while minor, are striking. Molarin's moody baritone recalls, at times, both Bauhaus' Peter Murphy and Type O Negative's Pete Steele, and it's a more effective asset for the band than the usual strident death metal growl. Similarly, Höglin's not an operatic soprano, which gives her vocals a warmer and more inviting tone than most female singers in similar bands. Add in the subtle way in which second guitarist Robert Vintervind integrates electronic textures into songs like "A Bittersweet Tragedy" and it's clear that Beseech is expanding their original sound, de-emphasizing the "metal" in favor of a greater focus on the "goth." It's a smart move that plays to the group's strengths. The digipak version of Sunless Days includes two extra tracks, a remix of this album's "Lost" that ups the electronic element even further, and a terrific remake of "Manmade Dreams," a track from an earlier album. ~ Stewart Mason

| | White Zombie Astro-Creep 2000: Songs Of Love, Destruction And Other Synthetic Delusions Of The Electric Head CD (1995)
Sunless Days music CDs
$11.69 All music written by White Zombie. All lyrics written by Rob Zombie.
"More Human Than Human" was nominated for a 1996 Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance.
Additional personnel includes: Charlie Clouser (programming, keyboards).
Singer Rob Zombie and his cohorts in White Zombie realize that the greatest and most intense horrors stem from simple and innocent sources. And that musical virtuosity plays little or no part in conveying the feelings of dread that the band specializes in. So rather than revel in extended solos, or write complex musical passages like most successful bands in the post-modern metal community, White Zombie achieve the desired effect (emotionally tweaking the listener) by concentrating on the little things: opening the heavy dirge of "Grease Paint And Monkey Brains" with an out of tune merry-go-round theme that slows down to a halt, or adding an eerie church organ to the full-on throttle of "Electric Head Pt. 1 (The Agony)." ...

Sunless Days album
$18.99 Since their early days playing the Ohio State University campus and their 4 Atlantic Records releases to their succesful independent albums on Lick Records, McGuffey Lane has built their career on music which has been both artistically and commercially successful, leading the group to tours with The Charlie Daniels Band, The Judds, Marshall Tucker and The Allman Brothers. With record sales of over 350,000, McGuffey Lane continues to have a strong and loyal following. The 1995 High Chief Records release of McGuffey Lane's Greatest Hits has generated new interest in the band and precipitated the new touring lineup which includes long time lead singer/lead guitarist John Schwab, founding member Terry Efaw, highly sought after Molly Paulken on bass who also produced the new CD, veteran Jerry Cummings on keys, Randy Huff on Drums, ...
| | Carpathian Forest Defending The Throne Of Evil CD (2003)
Sunless Days CD music
$14.05 "Carpathian Forest must be destroyed!," screams the CD booklet for Defending the Throne of Evil -- proof that Norway's Carpathian Forest may not be taking themselves entirely seriously. Which has always been the band's charm, so to speak; like other black metal acts, the delivery is poker-faced and anti-Christian, guitars encrusted with grime, vocals shrieking like squirrels trapped in the garbage disposal, and double-bass tempos veering nearly out of control. While past Carpathian Forest albums have embraced a gritty, Motörhead-meets-Mayhem aesthetic, Defending is the first record where vocalist/guitarist/leader Nattefrost has had full control of the group's reins (longtime collaborator Nordavind quit during the recording of 2001's Morbid Fascination of Death album) -- and he has disappointingly steered the band through more typical and predictable black metal pastures, fleshing ...

| | Gypsy Guerrilla Band Ernie Rocks! CD (2009)
Sunless Days songs
$15.19 It’s not an invasion, it’s a celebration of international music! The Gypsy Guerrilla Band plays "Hit and Run Music" with an exuberant mix of styles. Band members think like gypsies in their range of cultural influences, and like guerrillas in their aggressive approach to traditional instruments. The hammered dulcimer, autoharp, African kalimba, and Irish whistle create a hard-driving sound and bring new life to old-time, folk and ethnic music; the result is a repertoire characterized by big-spirited variety. On tour, the band adapts its material ...
