Following on the critically acclaimed rhythms of "Jazz Jubilee," Martine Avenue Productions is releasing a new compilation CD of classic jazz recordings by the Dudley Moore Trio. As in "Jazz Jubilee," standards and original compositions are juxtaposed in a dazzling parade of Dudley's remarkable talents - sometimes virtuosic, sometimes introspective, sometimes romantic, but always leaving you wanting Moore. This remarkable renaissance man began playing jazz in the basement of Peter Cook's new comedy night spot, The Establishment Club in Soho, London, while still in his twenties. London audiences therefore had two opportunities every night to applaud this up and coming young performer - onstage in the groundbreaking comedy revue "Beyond the Fringe" and after the show in the basement of The Establishment Club. Having spent a short time playing with both the Vic Lewis and the Johnny Dankworth big bands, Dudley returned to a more intimate setting and formed the Dudley Moore Trio. In this format he could shine and also experiment by introducing elements of his two strongest influences-- Erroll Garner and Oscar Peterson - with a little Bach thrown in just to remind his audiences that he was also a highly accomplished, classically trained pianist.Over the next thirty years or so the Trio was to remain his favourite jazz medium for live performances, studio recordings, and world tours. Throughout his career as a film actor, a television comedian, a composer and a classical pianist, jazz was woven as a very bright thread into the fabric of his life.Dudley Moore formed Martine Avenue Productions for the specific purpose of producing his recorded works. The company is proud to be continuing that mandate by releasing this latest recording of his creative genius. As with all projects of Martine Avenue Productions, proceeds from the CD will help to support two organizations that were close to Dudley's heart--Music For All Seasons, taking live professional musicians into all types of residential facilities, and the Dudley Moore Research Fund for PSP, helping to find a cure for the neurological condition that took his life on March 27, 2002. Dudley IS NOT Dull !! Wow, what a player !! I was blown away at his artistry! He plays jazz piano like it was his alone!! Smooth, very smooth! Submitted by Lombardo11746 (Benicia, California, USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
No Pete and No Dud Superb playing from the DM trio. Anyone who doubts his skill as a music performer should be surprised at the high level and skill in this music. From the sparkle of 'My Blue Heaven' to the atomospheric 'Sooz blues', anyone who likes jazz piano will do well to add this to their collection. Jazz, Blues & Moore album
$6.75 A surprise best-seller when it was first released, this mostly improvised pairing of singer/keyboardist/producer Al Kooper with two major guitar heroes of the day sounds fascinating all these years later precisely because of the distance of time--nobody makes records like this any more. The material runs the gamut from folk pop (covers of Donovan and Dylan), to blues ("Albert's Shuffle," "You Don't Love Me"), to heady jams ("His Holy Modal Majesty"), to big-band jazz ("Harvey's Tune").
All the tunes make effective templates for the kind off-the-cuff music-making that in less capable hands might have resulted in simple noodling. In fact, although Bloomfield and Stills don't play together on any of the cuts (Bloomfield played on one side of the original LP, Stills on the other), all three principals get off lots of good licks and producer Kooper has some interesting tricks up his sleeve, as in the over-the-top phasing he lavishes on "You Don't Love Me." The only real disappointment here is that Stills, a far better singer than Kooper, never opens his mouth.
Those familiar with the Live Adventures album these two recorded at the Fillmore West know ...

| | Everette Harp First Love CD (2009)
Jazz, Blues & Moore album
$15.09 On FIRST LOVE, contemporary jazz saxophonist and composer Everette Harp moves deeper into the space he addressed on 2007's excellent MY INSPIRATION. Produced by George Duke, the meld of acoustic and electric instruments here is perfectly balanced. Melodic and harmonic structures are much more complex and don't always fit the C-jazz cookie-cutter mold. Check his original "The Council of Nicea," one of the most satisfying things here. Harp's tenor is accompanied by James Genus' acoustic bass, and some spot-on breaks by Terri Lyne Carrington, a beautiful bluesy, hard bop trumpet solo by Michael "Patches" Stewart, and Lenny Castro's hand percussion. Directing the band is Duke on Fender Rhodes with help from the exquisite if understated electric guitar work from Dwight Sills. The ballad "Before You Leave" follows suit with Carrington providing elegant brushwork. These are pretty basic ...
