Very few groups have the ability to pull off instrumentals as abstract, as unforgettably chaotic, or as decidedly original as does Hella. The spazz-core style contained within the nine tracks of Hold Your Horse Is is a beauty to behold, yet is certainly not for the meek or close-minded. It should be known that these nine songs are purely instrumentals, that no vocalization is needed, and that no matter what you have heard before, Hella is bound to make an impression you won't soon forget. The enjoyable cataclysm of sound seems to come from a whole orchestra of musicians, yet this wild album was in fact created by only two people, Spencer Selm and Zach Hill. Drawing on classic rock, jazz, electronica, and hundreds of other influences that would take too long to list, Hella has perhaps outdone itself, as Hold Your Horse Is happens to be an album there simply could never be a sequel to. Those familiar with the progressive rock group Dredg may enjoy the hectic sonatas conjured up by Hella, as it is certainly an artistic vision that launches this duo's creative force to weave such intricate, spastic tunes. I received a lot of creative stimulation and support. At 8 years of age I took up guitar and knew that music was my dharma. Through my teens I studied classical guitar intensely and soon became very accomplished. At the same time I also pursued my love for other kinds of music, playing folk, rock, pop and jazz as well as song writing. After high school I continued my studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the North Carolina School of The Arts where I graduated with a BM degree. By the time I got out of music school I no longer wanted to pursue a career as a concert classical guitarist. Changing directions, I concentrated on writing my own music which was closer to my heart, allowing the freedom to cross musical borders and integrate diverse musical styles. At this time a strong inner search took hold in my life. My spiritual quest and yearnings led me to become a disciple of the Indian mystic, Osho (Rajneesh). My love of meditation, music, nature, natural healing and health have been the consistent passions throughout this life. For 10 years I lived and traveled mainly in California, Oregon, Hawaii and India living around Osho communes and communities as well as devoting myself to recording & performing. In the 1980's & 90's I had 4 recordings of my instrumental guitar based music released by various record labels under the names Paul Greaver and Antar.
