| | Donny Hathaway Collection CD (1990)
Mack 10
$8.75 Unfortunately, Atlantic's A Donny Hathaway Collection, one of the few career retrospectives available (and basically the only one in print), isn't quite definitive; it presents a version of Hathaway's career inordinately focused on his commercially successful duets with Roberta Flack, and his slowest, most dirge-like solo recordings. A few of his best up-tempo tracks are represented ("The Ghetto," his live cover of "What's Going On"), but not before haunted material like "I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know," and "Giving Up." ...

| | Keb' Mo' CD (1994)
Mack 10
$7.19 The first solo release by contemporary blues-based artist Keb Mo' mixes a reverence for traditional country blues with more streamlined elements of commercial pop. Despite a convincing "down-home" approach of gravel-textured vocals and superior slide work and finger-picking skills, Keb Mo' avoids the pose of a hard line revivalist. Instead, he chooses to employ his fluency in the Delta tradition as a palette on which to blend a connoisseur's sampling of various musical genres. Country, funk, swing, and late 20th-Century folk balladry (Traci Chapman, James Taylor and Bob Dylan) all manage to make their way into the mix for a seamless blend of roots and radio friendliness.
Keyboards, bass and drums (in addition to Keb Mo's contributions on guitar, harmonica and banjo) flesh out breezy soul-inflected pop such as "She Just Wants To Dance" and the island flavored "Tell Everybody I Know." Though gears continue to shift, from organ-drenched gospel to hillbilly lite, Keb Mo' brings things back to the source with inventive homages to the blues altar, such ...
| | Lou Christie Complete Co&Ce/Roulette Recordings CD (1998)
Mack 10
$14.39 Digitally remasterd by Eliot Goshman at Taragon studios, Deer Park, New York in May 1998. Compilation and liner notes by Harry Young.
Although he had made some good, and interesting, doo-wop records around his native Pittsburgh, this 21-track collection is where the career of Lou Christie begins in earnest. Still working out of Pittsburgh with his collaborator/mentor Twyla Herbert, the majority of these sides have a homegrown, small-label session feel to them, even if they were almost all simultaneously issued for national consumption on the Roulette imprint. Christie's otherworldly falsetto wails on the two big hits here ("The Gypsy Cried" and "Two Faces Have I"), which need no introduction, but his trademarked sound is equally at home and just as fine on B-sides and album filler like "Red Sails In the Sunset," "Tears On My Pillow," "Tonight I Fell In Love" and "When You Dance." The previously unreleased version of the rocker "Money" yields a quirky take to the standard, but everything on here is vintage and prime Lou Christie, a true song stylist who just happened to also write a solid third of the material compiled here. ...
| | Ultra Chilled 05 CDs (2005)
Mack 10
$15.85 Like most of the releases in Ultra's Chilled series, this bases itself on the same premise: largely downtempo, loungey music geared towards late-night or early-morning periods of relaxation. However, what actually sets this two-disc set apart from its predecessors is that the makeup and track selection is quite diverse in scope. Trip-hop and breakbeats from Mocean Worker and Mr. Scruff start things off nicely, leading into more indie electronic territory courtesy of M83, the Postal Service (making a return appearance), Brazilian Girls and Scissor Sisters before taking a ninety degree turn by including legendary jazz vocalist Nina Simone's stirring "Feeling Good" to close out the first act. The second disc brings things back to more familiar Ultra Chilled territory. Staples such as Moby, Erasure and Wax Poetic float side by side with ...
| | James Raynard Strange Histories CD (2006)
Mack 10
$14.29 Traditional British folk is a tough genre to begin your career in. James Raynard, like many a budding minstrel, found his first muse in Bob Dylan, but intensive folklore studies at Sheffield University redirected his internal compass back to the rustic songs of his childhood. The dark and hopeless tales of drink, spirits, and doomed love that inhabit all good English homes proved too great a temptation for the young multi-instrumentalist, and he soon found himself a friend in folk ...

| | Rozie Turner Blood Of A King CD (2008)
Mack 10
$13.69 Attention: The sound you have been waiting for with the message your soul and spirit has longed to experience is here! Introducing... Rozie Turner. The product of a music-inspired family, Rozie was introduced to music at a very early age. By the age of 5, Rozie was already singing lead vocals and traveling with his church youth choir, the Voices of Love, across the country. He was briefly a member of the gospel group All or Nothing, where he discovered his gift for songwriting. He is a member of the Holy Hip-Hop movement, the Mobsters of Light. He has ministered all across the country. From Atlanta to Chicago to Dallas, TX, God has given this vessel a charge to take his message and sound to the world, leaving no road untread. His music is being played not only in the U.S., but in the Middle East, Canada, the U.K. and even Jamaica. By far one of the most versatile up and coming artists in the music and entertainment industry –minister, singer, songwriter, CEO of VineYard Music, producer and actor- this Oklahoma City native fully accepted his calling of ministry through music after attending church at Integrity’s Voice of Victory, under Pastors Charles & Paula Martin. As reflected through his debut CD- Blood of a King, Rozie’s sound is a unique fusion of gospel, old school R&B, praise and worship, hip-hop and soul, giving him a completely original and new sound and voice for the Kingdom of God. His captivating, passionate and thought-provoking lyrics are a testimony of God’s saving grace and faithfulness to all of His promises and a proclamation of the power of faith in God, in God’s word and in God’s love. It will stir up listeners with a sound that is so diverse, and beats that are so bangin, ...
