Collection CD music
$14.95 Many people think of smooth jazz as something that didn't start until the 1980s, but arguably, smooth jazz started around 1966-1968 with the overtly commercial, pop-drenched albums that guitarist Wes Montgomery recorded during the last few years of his life. Love it or hate it, Montgomery's more commercial output had a major impact on Peter White and many other guitarists who have contributed to smooth jazz (including George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Earl Klugh, Chuck Loeb, and Henry Johnson). Musically, a lot has changed since the '60s, but the more things change in music, the more they inevitably stay the same -- and 2009 found White (like Montgomery 41, 42, and 43 years earlier) still struggling with a desire to improvise and a desire for mass acceptance (the thing that jazz, for the most part, lost after World War II). Of course, one doesn't necessarily rule out the another; the late saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr. knew how to be commercial and adventurous at the same time, but most smooth jazz artists play it way too safe -- which is what White usually does on Good Day. This 2009 release is, on ...

| | Sean Chambers Strong Temptation CD (1998)
Collection music CDs
$11.39 Like most guitar players with a developing taste for Blues-Rock guitar, Sean grew up listening to the likes of Johnny Winter, the three Kings (BB, Freddie, & Albert), Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, and Billy Gibbons to name a few. Chambers was particularly smitten with the legendary sounds of Jimi Hendrix, and later, Stevie Ray Vaughan. In fact, it was these two players that inspired the young Chambers to delve into their unique styles in depth, which had a noticeable influence on his tone and touch. Sean doesn't merely play the guitar as much as he boldly attacks the instrument with a fluid ferocity and attitude that makes one stop dead in their tracks.Over the last 15 years, Chambers has continued to evolve through regular touring, not only honing his guitar mastery, but also refining his vocal and songwriting talents along the way. In October 1998, Chambers released his initial recording effort Strong Temptation which to date has shipped more than 15,000 copies. Since then, Chambers has had a number of milestones in his career, one of which was becoming the musical director and guitarist for the legendary Hubert Sumlin of Howlin' Wolf fame. Touring the world with Sumlin for almost five years, they performed before sellout crowds at major clubs and festivals in the US, Europe, Japan, and Canada. Following in the footsteps of many of his idols, Chambers has been especially well received outside the US, and particularly in Europe where he has both toured with Sumlin and on his own. Europe's premiere music authority, Guitarist magazine, listed him as one of the 50 top guitarist of the last century, edging out the distinguished likes of Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Keb Mo among others. Europe's Total Guitar magazine gave Strong Temptation five stars and cited the record as "the most impressive Blues debut since SRV's Texas Flood." Chambers continues to develop his powerful style on his March 2004 release Humble Spirits, which showcases his musical evolution beyond the standard blues idiom. Produced by industry veteran Bud Snyder (Allman Brothers / Gov't Mule), the album features several notable musicians including Bernard Allison, Frankie & Danny Toler (Allman Brothers), ...
