Maximum: The Unauthorised Biography Of My Chemical Romance
$13.05 2007 album of Crass covers (yes, Crass!) from Jeffrey Lewis, one of the leaders of New York's Anti-Folk scene. Lewis has reworked 12 of the Anarcho-Punk Rocker's finest and he performs them in his own inimitable way. Includes 'I Ain't Thick, It's Just A Trick', 'Banned From The Roxy', 'Do They Owe Us A Living?' and more. Rough Trade.
Personnel: Jeffrey Lewis (vocals, guitar, strings, piano, organ, keyboards, percussion); Nan E. Turner (vocals, background vocals); Jack Lewis (vocals); John Kessel (guitar); Matt Mason (percussion, drum programming). Authors: Frederick Douglass; Cesar Chavez; Emiliano Zapata; Joe Louis Hill; Emma Goldman; Jeffrey Lewis. More than most albums, the title of 12 CRASS SONGS tells you everything you need to know about what's inside: 12 songs originally written and recorded by classic British anarcho-punk/DIY group Crass, reinterpreted by Lewis, known as much for his underground comic books and association with New York anti-folk group the Moldy Peaches as for his music. While it's easy to quibble with Lewis's sing-speak delivery, the words are the main point here. Recontextualized and given a warm, stripped-down accompaniment, the disarming power of Crass's lyrics shines through. While in the minds of many punk rock was supposed to be about upending the rules and assumptions that had come to govern rock & roll in the mid-'70s, punk also helped revive the ranting spirit that had informed the best political music and art through the 20th century, from the Situationalists to the Fugs. Among the first wave of British punks, none ranted with greater ferocity and sense of purpose than Crass, who actually were the anarchist firebrands the Sex Pistols pretended to be, though the brutal report of their music was rarely as impressive or as intelligent as their lyrics. Crass were massively influential during their 1977-1984 lifespan and beyond, both as musicians and as activists, and Jeffrey Lewis' 12 Crass Songs is a surprising ...

Maximum: The Unauthorised Biography Of My Chemical Romance
$18.99 Instrumental fingerstyle guitar to motivate, sympathise with, and to sooth your lifestyle.I am a guitarist from Michigan with a big dream. I love creating intelligent, emotion driven music. The audiences that take to my music are usually the thinkers, the dreamers, the intellect, etc. I have a great respect for Classical music and always try to include that in my repertoire. Modern fingerstyle guitarists are doing really creative things with the guitar so I also love to play some Leo Kottke, Alex de Grassi, Michael Hedges, Andy McKee, as well as many others in my concerts. I use pieces from other composers to challenge my thinking and force me to try new things so my own original compositions have as much as possible available to them. An example of ...
