The first album by Portland, Oregon's tongue in cheek lounge pop orchestra Pink Martini, SYMPATHIQUE, was originally released in 1997 on the band's own Heinz label. Although the album contains two originals by singer China Forbes and pianist Thomas Lauderdale, the title track and "Lullaby," the bulk of the album's 12 songs consists of new arrangements of loungy favorites like "Never On Sunday," "Que Sera Sera," "Brazil," and "Song of the Black Lizard," taken from the soundtrack of a Japanese cult film. Unlike contemporaries such as Combustible Edison, Pink Martini had the musical chops and heartfelt love of the style to keep the album from descending into snarky kitsch. In 2009, Heinz Records released the first ever vinyl edition of the album.
Recorded at Stiles Recording Studio, Portland, Oregon, from December 1996 to April 1997.

Either the mid-'70s or the addition of Ted Turner's replacement, Laurie Wisefield, brought about a severe identity crisis for Wishbone Ash. No longer were they the self-conscious band that evolved from their blues-based debut to their prog precursor Pilgrimage to their progressive tour de force Argus. While Wishbone Ash was still a guitar-oriented band, Locked In provided no originality and, save for a guitar refrain in "Rest in Peace," no memorable passages whatsoever. While his credentials are impressive, producer Tom Dowd was not the man for the job. He was much better suited as a producer of Southern rock, jazz, and R&B acts. Again, Wishbone Ash suffered from inadequate lead vocals, but that wasn't as serious a problem as their atrocious songwriting. Locked In is the album that clearly signified the downfall ...

Akimbo Productions, LLC is pleased to announce the release of the debut solo album from Hawai'i vocal artist, performer, and former Miss Hawai'i, Cheryl Bartlett. Entitled, 'Like Ocean, Like Lace', the CD was produced by local legend Audy Kimura with additional production credits going to Joey Wolpert (of rRed Elephant Studio fame) and Beto Beserra (Brazilian-born, grammy nominated bassist from Japan). All of the twelve songs featured on the CD are original compositions from Hawai'i songwriters with nine of the selections written by Cheryl herself, two from honored island composer Herb Mahelona, and one samba written especially for Cheryl by Hawaii's world jazz-man Bailey Matsuda. Described as rhythmic, lyrical, and uplifting, the album features several songs in the Brazilian bossa-nova style with other influences from soft rock to Hawaiian slack-key, middle eastern dance, music of the Andes, and American blues. To honor the traditions which have influenced her life, Cheryl offers lyrics in the English, Spanish, Portuguese and Farsi languages with Hawaiian place and personal names featured in two of the selections. The musicians featured on the album are equally as diverse, with guitarist Bobby Nishida, bassist Ben 'Lono' Kaumeheiwa, and percussionist Rogerio Araujo providing the core of 'the studio band'. ...
