Rendez-Vous Au Bal Musette, Vol. 1 songs
$6.05 Don Ho's very name has become a veritable punchline. Yet his achievements can not be dismissed as easily as an obvious joke. Few recording artists have been so comfortable in so many genres--Don Ho masterfully handles anything from country to light rock to luau listening. He's almost a Jimmy Buffet from an ...
| | Fabulous Wailers CD (1959)
Rendez-Vous Au Bal Musette, Vol. 1 album
$12.59 As any quick perusal of old Top 40 rock & roll station playlists will attest, singles were where the shakin' action was, as rock & roll albums were scarce as hen's teeth back in those pre-Beatle days. But when the record companies decided to issue one, it was usually an artifact of high rockin' value and some major influence. Naysayers to the contrary, this debut album by the Northwest's first great rock & roll combo is just such an artifact. The Wailers dispensed crude, greasy, largely instrumental rock & roll music for those who came to shake it up and shake it down, and it's all on fine, rhythmic, open display here. This album is amazing in its own simplistic, nuthin'-special way, its crudity almost palpable. There's only one vocal aboard, Kent Morrill's "Dirty Robber," later covered and torched by the Sonics. Everything else is built on the riff-sturdy bones of their biggest hit, "Tall Cool One." With two guitars, piano, sax, and drums -- no bass player anywhere on here, another crudeness indicator of the times and locale it was recorded in -- all blasting away like they're working a VFW Hall dance, hoof shakers like "Wailin'," "Shanghaied," "Beat Guitar" (featured in the soundtrack of the misguided Jerry Lee Lewis bioflick Great Balls Of Fire), and "Gunnin' For Peter" stand loud and proud as teen hall pre-Beatle ...

| | Dee Brown No Time To Waste CD (2007)
Rendez-Vous Au Bal Musette, Vol. 1 songs
$9.35 Dee Brown was born in Detroit, Michigan. His full name is Demitris Edwards Brown and he is the youngest of three children. His parents George and Roceal Brown exposed him to music at a young age. As a child, Dee can remember hearing Jazz from his father's favorite artists: Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Charles Mingus, Les McCann,Cannonball Adderly, King Pleasure and Charles Christian. His mother, on the other hand, was into the Motown Sound. She would play music by the Four Tops, The Miracles,The Jackson 5 and James Brown. This started Dee on his way to learn elements of several different forms and styles of music.Dee first became interested in guitar while in elementary school. One of his classmates could listen to a song on the radio and play it back on his guitar. Watching his classmate play fascinated Dee and he wanted to emulate his classmate. Dee received his first guitar as a Christmas present from his Grandmother. Dee immediately started taking lessons with the hopes of one day being able to play like B.B. King.Dee continued to advance with his playing skills and while still in high school,he decided to form his own group named 'Foreplay'. The group played all over Detroit and attracted the attention of producer Quincy Jones who offered them a record deal. Dee declined to be a part of the deal due to a conflict with the group's image. After college, Dee decided to form an R&B group called 'One Wish' - similar to'Boyz II Men' and 'Silk'. The group released an album called 'I Feel Like Getting Romantic' on the TRC record label. The album gave the group a top 100 single called 'Tell Me Why' in both the country and rhythm and blues categories. 'One Wish' was also nominated for a Nashville music award and won the best single by a local artist Metro Times Detroit Music Award. For his next project, Dee wanted to create an album featuring him on guitar. With this concept in mind he put together a few ...
