| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
Soakin Wet Vol. 2 music CDs
$11.18 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as coo coo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no ...

| | Angie Stone Unexpected CD (2009)
Soakin Wet Vol. 2 album
$13.10 On her second album for Concord's Stax imprint (and fourth overall), Angie Stone delves deeper into funk and hip-hop than on her previous outings. Her last offering, The Art of Love & War, was a critical and commercial triumph for the vastly underrated vocalist, and topped the Billboard chart. With a slew of producers including Sly Williams, Willie "Chuck" Shivers, Karrim King and Fitzroy Reid, Steven "Supe" White, Jonathan Richmond, Jazze Pha, and Stone herself, these dozen tracks continue to reveal her versatility as a vocalist and recording artist; she can sing whatever it is she wants to with equal verve, authenticity, and flair. Despite the slicker and more diverse sounds on Unexpected, the soul quotient is high, even if this isn't strictly a neo-soul album. The new beat consciousness reveals itself most on the title track, which is hard funk at its 2009 best. Cuts such as "Free" might have come right out of the 1990s with their use of careening synths, shimmering hip-hop beats, and colliding loops. But the melody is solid, its chorus and refrain catchy. "I Found a Keeper" is another; its production, arrangement, and structure actually feel like it was recorded in the 1990s -- and is ...
| | Michael Jackson Dangerous CD (1991) Remastered; Special Edition
Soakin Wet Vol. 2 CD music
$7.59 Principally recorded at Record One Studios & Larrabee Studios, Los Angeles, California. Originally released on Epic/Sony (45400).
Digitally remastered by Bernie Grundman (Bernie Grundman Mastering, Los Angeles, California).
After a lengthy gap of nearly five years, Jackson had to pull something out of the bag. BAD was, after all, a difficult act to follow, and the press were trying to prove he was bonkers. This was a pretty decent attempt and fell in with the hard dance beat of the early 90s. "Heal The World" was much like the old melodic Jackson, and it became ...

| | Bone Thugs-N-Harmony Greatest Hits (Chopped & Screwed) CDs (2004) Chopped & Screwed
Soakin Wet Vol. 2 album
$9.35 The Cleveland, Ohio collective Bone Thugs-N-Harmony began as Eazy-E proteges and early signees to his Ruthless Records. For a brief time, the five-member rap trio eclipsed the always-controversial Eazy, scoring huge crossover hits with its knack for intricate harmonies and a blend of smooth R&B and gospel with a hard-edged street attitude. The group's supreme asset was its five distinctive voices and its unique ability to interweave them into a complex ...
