Sophie Tucker, “The Last of the Red Hot Mamas”, celebrated her 50 years in show business in 1954 and to mark this very special occasion her record label launched a limited edition Sophie Tucker Golden Jubilee Album. The record had selection of Tucker favourites performed by her label-mates; younger names like Patti Page, Georgia Gibbs, Vic Damone and Rusty Draper who sang on the album and chatted with Sophie. All of them had graced the Top Ten recently so this was a testament to Sophie’s popularity not only with the public but also with her colleagues. The record also featured names like Eddie Cantor and Jack Benny paying tribute to Miss Tucker. It is a treat to hear Patti singing "My Yiddishe Momme" and Georgia Gibbs doing "Some of These Days". Naturally Sophie got to sing some risqué numbers, "Inhibition Papa" and "It’s Never Too late To Have A Little Fun" etc.

$13.25 In Europe, copyrights on recordings expire after 50 years, which allows record labels to press up their own unlicensed versions of vintage material, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. (Although nominally not available in the U.S., where copyrights last longer, such recordings usually are not difficult for Americans to obtain.) Here's a case of the copyright limit producing a valuable release. Britain's Sepia Records specializes in show music, and this album compiles tracks from numerous recordings of music written by ...

$16.45 DELIA Based in the Adirondack Mountains of Northern New York, John Kribs, Scott Greene and Gwen Tracy formed DELIA about two years ago. The band takes its name from the classic Blues tune of that same name and plays as both an acoustic trio and a rock quartet with influences as varied as their ages and musical backgrounds. OK…you want to know what these influences are?!...”Give me names.” OK. Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, Etta James, Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin, Billy Holiday, Bill Monroe, New Grass Revival, Chuck Berry, Joan Osborne, Marvin Gaye, Bonnie Raitt, Brownie Maghee, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Peggy Lee, Linda Ronstadt, and everyone who influenced them…and more. Guitarist singer-songwriter John Kribs has been performing professionally for almost 40 years. Growing up with the rock and folk music of the 60s he joined his first working band in 1967. During the 1980s as leader of the rockabilly tinged Johnny and the Triumphs, he hit the top of the "American Play" charts in several French cities with "Johnny & The Triumphs", the bands first lp. Their signature song "Red Belvedere", written by John was also featured on National Public Radios' Car Talk. In the 1990s he was a member of the award winning Celtic/Bluegrass Band the McKrells. He has toured the U.S., Canada, Denmark and Norway and opened shows for Robert Cray, Arlo Guthrie, Joe Cocker and many others. Before helping to form DELIA two years ago he started the Blue Line Recordings label and The Not for profit Southern Adirondack Musicians Fund. Bassist, singer-songwriter Scott Greene was born into a musical family and began playing bass for his legendary father Smokey Greene at the tender age of 12. As a member of the family business he cut his “musical teeth” performing at Bluegrass Festivals, County fairs and Country Music Roadhouses all across the northeastern U.S. He was a member of the hard working and innovative Bluegrass/New grass stylists “Burnt Toast”. ...
