DVOD-1, the first DVD from Voivod, covers the original line-up period (1983-1991). Included are all the 80s videos, plus rare live and studio performances of classic Voivod songs. From the start, their goal was to sound completely unique and incorporate odd musical tempos and futuristic story lines into their songs. They influenced and inspired other thrash and metal bands with their one-of-a-kind styles of performing and writing. Canadian metal band Voivod boast the distinction of being the first thrash band to gain a following worldwide. Though this is no small feat, they have continued to expand their musical explorations throughout their long career, embracing industrial and avant-garde elements. The selection of material featured here includes all of the videos recorded during the 1980s with the original lineup, including "Ripping Headaches," "Ravenous Medicine," "Tribal Convictions," "Psychic Vacuum," and "Astronomy Domine." Live and studio performances feature the band between 1983 and 1991, when personnel changes caused the band to deviate from their thrash roots. Voivod Movie Review Average Rating: (4.3 out of 5 stars) awesome, awe-inspiring, and long overdue! If you're looking at this review, I shouldn't have to fill you in on who VoiVod is. But just in case, suffice it to say that they are without doubt one of the most unique and original metal bands in the history of music. It will be a long time before others even manage to come close to their output in sheer creativity or originality. They were too far ahead of their time. It's true that their early work was often rough and hard to listen to, but even those primitive efforts held a promise of great things to come. From Killing Technology on, they continuously surprised and challenged their fans to always expect something new. VoiVod was never a band to rest on it's laurels, and this collection does a great job of illustrating that.
That said, this video collection is a must-have for any VoiVod fan. This collection focuses on the early years, from Rrrroar! up to Angel Rat (only Freedoom is included from that album), and includes live performances spanning that entire period. Sadly, it does seem a bit short (or I'm just greedy, your choice!), but the sound and visual quality more than makes up for the length. There has been mention of more dvd's in the works to cover later versions of the band (from Eric Forrerster to Jason Newsted), but since Piggy's death we will just have to wait and see. It would be a shame to stop here, so I for one really hope they finish the project.

a must have If you are any kind of a Voivod fan, then this is a must have. What great footage (especially Piggy)! If I were to pick nits I would like to have seen more interviews but what a treat. One of the best creative bands in the history of metal (or any music for that matter) shown live and behind the scenes. Submitted by nileman1 (Illinois) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Looks great.... ...but sounds ok...
Even though it's advertised as 5.1 surround sound. Everything is dolby 2.0
No fancy new mix, not even for the videos.
The picture quality of the live sequences is rather good. I expected poor bootlegs, but was gladly surprised. Still, a great addition to any Voivod collection. Submitted by dan (Montreal) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

| | Slayer: Still Reigning DVD (2004)
Voivod review
$22.09 Most Slayer fans still hold up their album REIGN IN BLOOD as the band's true masterpiece. So when it came to recording a visual document of the band--entitled STILL REIGNING--the band turned to their 1986 record for inspiration. With the original line up intact, the band takes to a stage decorated in exactly the same style as their 1980s tour, and work their way through the album. The punishing intensity of their playing hasn't let up over the years, and the group members clearly delight in playing some classic material. With the REIGN IN BLOOD album performed in its entirety, tracks such as "Angel of Death," "Criminally Insane," and "Jesus Saves" come to life once again. As an added bonus, Slayer also performs a selection of other classics, including "South of Heaven," "War Ensemble," ...

| | Tales From The Crypt - The Complete Third Season DVDs (1991)
Voivod movie DVD
$32.69 Television executives plugged into viewers' deepest fears with the debut of TALES FROM THE CRYPT in 1989. Its original source material was the EC comic-book; the series originated on HBO and would go on to run for seven seasons. Hosted by the skeletal Crypt Keeper himself, each episode of the show offered a new, ghoulish tale to inspire nightmares in its audience. The show was such a success that a myriad of CRYPT-inspired spin-offs resulted, including an animated series, several feature films, and seemingly infinite merchandising opportunities. A popular favorite among horror film fans, TALES FROM THE CRYPT also appeals to anyone who loves the strange and visceral thrill of being scared. The show's entire third season is included here.
Yes, that die-abolical punster and bone-a-fide ghoul of your dreams the Crypt Keeper is back to host this scare-rific collection of all 14 complete and uncut episodes from Season 3 of the series that ran seven memorably spooktacular seasons. Among the tales spilling out of the vault are Loved to Death, with Mariel Hemingway as a woman zapped by a love potion; Top Billing, starring Jon Lovitz as a struggling actor ...
| | Celtic Frost Monotheist CD (2006) Bonus Track; Deluxe Edition; Digipak
Voivod video
$15.65 "Belief in one god," suggests the title of Celtic Frost's comeback album, MONOTHEIST. For fans of the groundbreaking Swiss death/thrash metal outfit, that statement is better understood as "Belief in one band." Celtic Frost are the absolute deity of dark metal, and the band returned in 2006 to reclaim what it so rightfully deserved, following experiments and folly both daring and unsuccessful. Tom G. Warrior and company lay waste to a dense, moody, cathartic collection of songs, finding new inspiration in both their old works as well as elements of the early-2000s metal scene they helped inspire. Relentlessly grim and spiritually foreboding, MONOTHEIST marks a powerful return to form for Celtic Frost.
Celtic Frost's much anticipated 2006 comeback album, Monotheist, is everything you'd expect from the band who managed to attach the term avant-garde to ugly ol' heavy metal. It's unconventional, unpredictable, challenging to a fault, head-scratchingly weird at times, frequently brilliant, and anything but perfect. A simplified stylistic description would have it pegged as some sort of modern gothic doom album, but simple descriptions have never really fit the bill with Celtic Frost -- whether relating to their greatest triumphs, like To Mega Therion and Into the Pandemonium, or abject disasters like the infamous Cold Lake -- and Monotheist is no different. The shared weight of the band's hallowed legacy and inevitably tall expectations don't exactly help the album's inauspicious start, either. Despite an energetic burst of old-school blackened thrash, ...

Voivod video
$15.15 The bittersweet folk-tinged songs of Simon & Garfunkel have enchanted music fans searching for supremely melancholic sounds. Music fans in the 1960s flocked to them in their droves, seeing the subtle tunes the coupling produced as a welcome respite from the blood and thunder of acts such as The Who, Jimi Hendrix, and the Rolling Stones. In 2003, Simon & Garfunkel reunited for the "Old Friends" tour, which saw them delighting their fans with their first live shows for over 20 years. Working their way through some classic material, the duo clearly relishes the chance to perform some songs that have been left behind by their respective solo careers. Among them are "Scarborough Fair," "A Hazy Shade of Winter," "Mrs. Robinson," "I Am a Rock," "The Only Living Boy in New York," and many others, including a special guest spot as The Everly Brothers join them for a touching rendition of "Bye Bye Love."
