| | Girl Group Sounds: Lost & Found CD (6 Customer Reviews)
Demonstrating the wealth of styles covered by 1960s female singers, this wide-ranging four-CD set (originally available in a stylish hatbox) embraces pop, R&B, rock & roll, and country tracks from East and West Coast artists like Ellie Greenwich, the Shirelles, and the Shangri-Las, as well as from British singers like Petula Clark, Brian Epstein protégé Cilla Black, and a pre-psychedelic Julie Driscoll. A kaleidoscopic collection that combines hits like P.P. Arnold's "First Cut Is the Deepest" and the Velvelettes' "Really Saying Something," with rare gems like the Lovelites' How Can I Tell My Mom and Dad," GIRL GROUP SOUNDS is a goldmine of '60s classics.
Rhino is pleased to present the first-ever boxed set to celebrate the girl groups of the 1960s. From soul and garage to Brill Building pop and countrypolitan, every possible girl group style is represented on these four discs, which gather 120 remastered tracks from 107 artists—The Supremes, The Ronettes, Dusty Springfield, Carole King, Petula Clark, plus a slew of artists less known but every bit as vital. Landmark packaging replicates a mod-style hat box and includes a diary-style booklet with essays, rare photos, track notes, and artist quotes.

| Average Rating: (4.8 out of 5 stars) List All Reviews One kiss can lead to another I love most of these tunes. I already had at least two thirds of them on other compilations. It is still worth the price. Love the packaging! Submitted by blinkie7 (Columbus, OH USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Possibly the most incredible box set released This four CD box set of girl groups from the sixties is perhaps the most incredible packaged box set that I have ever bought, and I have about 70 of them! I grew up with the girl group sounds as a young boy. I would give this an A+, except for that there is one artist who I really like that is not on here that was really important to be. This would be Bernnette Carroll, and without her on this my grade would only be "A." Submitted by johnacarolyne (Dallas, Texas) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Another success for Rhino! One of the hallmarks of a Rhino reissue project is that they dig deep - beyond the obvious hits which have been re-packaged endlessly and unearth treasures. This is no exception. Most of the 120 tracks here are as excellent as they are little-known. And the packaging - as you'd expect from Rhino - is first-class. An Overlooked Genre This is a great package for any fans of the 60's Girl Group Sound. I have been collecting for many years and there are quite a few songs on here that I never knew existed. Rhino has done it again. Submitted by rricks2 (Torrance, CA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
Absolutely FABULOUS!!!!! I just got this for christmas and first I was blowned away by the packaging. Totally original! But what really blew me away was what was on the inside. So many great songs, many unknown, but still GREAT. This is an overdose of great tunes from when music WAS MUSIC! Totally stands the test of time. I am very happy with this!
