Turner's voice is in reliably great form throughout, on her most notable hit from the '90s ("I Don't Wanna Fight"), her duet with Bryan Adams ("It's Only Love") and her impressively strong treatments of songs by Al Green ("Let's Stay Together") and John Waite ("Missing You"). Fans seeking a complete overview of Turner's career should look to 1994's THE COLLECTED RECORDINGS: SIXTIES TO NINETIES, but, with that said, ALL THE BEST is a fine place to turn for a one-stop assembly of Turner's later work.
The title of Capitol's 2005 Tina Turner best-of collection, ALL THE BEST - THE HITS, is something of a misnomer. With the exception of "Nutbush City Limits" (the set's sole recording by Ike & Tina), and a revisitation of her famous cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Proud Mary," there is precious little of the singer's classic '60s and early '70s period. Instead, the album is devoted almost exclusively to Turner's '80s comeback hits: "What's Love Got to Do With It," "Better Be Good to Me," and "We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)," among them.
Personnel: Tina Turner; Ike Turner, Bryan Adams.

| | Shakira She Wolf CD (2009)
All The Best: The Hits CD music
$12.95 Last time around, Shakira touched upon so many styles she couldn't be contained on one album, splitting Oral Fixation in two. This time, she focuses on one sound only: a pulsating electro-disco that crosses all boundaries and welcomes all nationalities. Such concentration behooves Shakira, freeing her to release her inner She Wolf, a wild wacko who's as cuckoo as she is carnal. And for as sexy as Shakira is -- crucially, her music is sexy too -- what really gives She Wolf its bite is her inspired nuttiness, how she laments that Matt Damon's not meant for her, and wishes her ex-lover and his new girl a horrible vacation where the room smells and the toilet doesn't flush. "Darling, it is no joke, this is lycanthropy," she sings on the title track with no small trace of humor, and this blend of cheerful weirdness and sick beats -- often supplied by ...

| | Eminem Curtain Call: The Hits CD (2005)
All The Best: The Hits album
$10.79 It's hard to believe, given his gargantuan impact on popular culture, that Eminem had only released four full-length albums by 2004. That year's ENCORE showed the rapper's artistic vitality fading just a bit, but 2005's CURTAIN ...
| | Big L Lifestylez Ov Da Poor And Dangerous CD (1995)
All The Best: The Hits CD music
$7.85 All songs co-written by L. Coleman. Samples include "Vibrations" (as performed by Buster Williams) and "Stay With Me" (as performed by DeBarge).
Having made a name for himself as a guest MC on D.I.T.C. (Diggin' in the Crates) projects such as Diamond D.'s Stunts, Blunts & Hip-Hop and Showbiz & A.G.'s Runaway Slave, the flamboyantly gifted Lamont Coleman (aka Big L) dropped his debut in early 1995. A product of the mean streets of Harlem, L made his bones in the rap game with his rapid fire freestyle delivery and clever punchline-peppered rhymes. A patchwork album with a few outstanding cuts, Lifestylez fails to package the lightning-in-a-bottle talent of this cut-above MC. The album ...
| | Fats Domino Imperial Singles, Vol. 3: 1956-1958 CD (1998)
All The Best: The Hits music CDs
$19.05 Recorded between 1956 and 1958. Includes liner notes by Rick Coleman.
Although Fats Domino was not a showman on par with Jerry Lee Lewis or Elvis Presley, the music he played was no less important to the development of rock & roll. This collection documents Domino's most famous singles. "I'm in the Mood for Love" is a jazzy B-side that resonates just as beautifully today as it did in 1957. ...

All The Best: The Hits CD music
$12.25 Phillip Johnston's unique approach to jazz mixes nostalgic-sounding music with forward-thinking approaches and his ever-present humor, as on his earlier CDs as a leader and compositions when he was a part of the Microscopic Septet. This CD features three separate works written for Keely Garfield's modern ...
