| | Bigg Jus Poor People's Day CD Bigg Jus Discography of CDs
(1 Customer Review)
Although it will register low on the mainstream radar, the sophomore album by ex-Company Flow member Bigg Jus is a hip-hop diamond--raw, rough-hewn, and intelligent. Bigg Jus spits imaginative, fiercely political rhymes over beats and samples that are as inventive and engaging as any in hip-hop. Along with contemporaries like El-P and Aesop Rock, Bigg Jus is bringing hip-hop back to its roots as a forum for reportage and truth-speaking. Fans of Jay-Z and 50 Cent should steer clear--there are no club jams here, no singable R&B hooks (though DJ Gman does keep things booming). Instead, POOR PEOPLE'S DAY is hardcore, rebellious, underground hip-hop of consequence that represents the genre's potential as a political forum.

| | Tom McFarland Travelin' With The Blues CD (1978)
Poor People's Day album
$10.55 Tom McFarland was a blues fixture in the Pacific Northwest and the Bay Area until his death in 2004. So it's perhaps apt that this CD reissue of his first album, recorded in 1978, now finds its way out. That he was a devotee of B.B. King is apparent in the way he uses his guitar to punctuate and accentuate lines, although throughout he chooses a much more brittle tone. And the West Coast attitude is apparent in the sense of easy swing in the original songs, backed by bass and drums -- nothing ever ...
