Hittin' The Trail album
$11.65 After more than a decade of recording for other labels, George Thorogood & the Destroyers moved back to EMI/Capitol for the release of 2009's THE DIRTY DOZEN. Split into two sides and consisting of covers of classic blues songs, some bar band favorites, and a couple of lesser-known tracks, the album digs back into the archives to uncover some buried tracks from the '80s and '90s. What's uncanny is that apart from the tinny sound of the recordings from ...

| | Gary Moore Bad For You Baby CD (2008)
Hittin' The Trail album
$10.49 Another year, another Gary Moore blues-rock album nearly interchangeable with the last. That's no problem for fans or even newcomers, because despite the surface similarities between releases, Moore never seems to be going through the motions for the sake of further bulking up his already substantial catalog. His tough guitar lines remain biting yet classy, and his underappreciated voice is strong and convincing on originals and covers that nail all of the blues-rock bases without sounding rote. While there are no surprises here, Bad for You Baby is far from a disappointment. Moore continues a string of rugged, post-hard rock, power blues that he has carved his niche in since 1990's Still Got the Blues. He applies his throaty vocals and feral guitar to a pair of Muddy Waters tunes to impressive effect. No one will mistake his versions of Waters' "Walking Through the Park" or "Someday Baby" for the classic Chess era nuggets ...

| | Robert Bitte Autumn Moon CD (2001)
Hittin' The Trail music CDs
$6.69 Many new age-oriented artists succeed by choosing either the all-acoustic piano path or delving fully into the synth realm. Bitte has a good time mixing the two, creating what could be called new age fusion with a whimsical jazz sensibility. The problem for the most part here is that while his grooves are usually strong and the vibe (whether atmospheric or more stark) interesting, he lacks the lush melodic sense that characterizes the best smooth jazz or new age artists. The title track has a meandering atmospheric haze behind a spacey synth melody that just keeps repeating. "Safe House" features a peppy rock piano harmony riff, but the synth electric guitar melody sounds too, well, synthetic, and there are too many repetitive drum fills. He keeps switching gears, which keeps listeners on their toes, but for what? His successful genre compatriots do best when building upon a single emotion or vibe. "Inner Peace" is moody and dark, somber and numbing. "Cybercat" follows with a chunky percussion base and then a halting experimental melody that fails to catch fire. "Why Wait?" sounds like it was composed on an old portable Casio keyboard. "Love Left Unsaid" is gloomy and stiff. To be fair, there are some good motifs and melodic ideas and some might appreciate the soulful bass rhythms of many tracks, even if they are completely electronic. But there's nothing cohesive to hold it together. ~ Jonathan Widran
Composer and keyboard instrumentalist Robert Bitte has taken jazz to a new level with his latest release AUTUMN MOON. Here is music that is, all at once, ambient and involving. There are 14 songs on this album and each share a serenity we all need since 9/11. Mr Bitte writes music that is contemplative and transportive. Some of it upbeat and some of it is oh, so mellow. I remember the first time I listened to it, I found AUTUMN MOON smooth, like really good bourbon, and just as intoxicating. Here is expressive instrumental music filled with acoustic and synth textures that move and uplift the listener. From the title track that opens the album, to the 14th song, DESTINY, this reviewer found inner peace, inspiration and joy. Robert Bitte has the ability to put just the right notes together and then play them with uncommon talent. And why ...
