(8 Customer Reviews)
Five years after Disturbed's crushing debut, the Chicago nu-metal stalwarts offer their third full-length, TEN THOUSAND FISTS. Reunited with long-time producer Johnny K and new bassist John Moyer (Union Underground), Disturbed's return boasts a revitalized edge. TEN THOUSAND FISTS carries the metallic fire of THE SICKNESS, perfectly balanced with the melodic sensibility of 2002's BELIEVE. From the mosh pit-inspiring title track to the provocative and socially conscious lyrics of tracks such as "Deify" and "Sacred Lie," it is abundantly clear that Disturbed has further evolved their brutal-yet-refined approach. TEN THOUSAND FISTS also features striking booklet artwork by comic book legend Todd McFarlane.
Special Edition
Disturbed: David Draiman (vocals); Dan Donegan (guitars, keyboards); Mike Wengren (drums).
Additional personnel: John Moyer (bass guitar).

Ten Thousand Fists album
$11.69 Disturbed's debut found the band crawling through the mire of contemporary metal staples for a cohesive direction. The staccato primal scream that became the band's trademark helped break the single, "Down With The Sickness," in tandem with the song's Tool-meets-Pantera rhythmic complexities. From the rap metal grooves of "Voices" and "Stupify" to the neo-reggae vibe of "Violence Fetish," THE SICKNESS was a musical forecast ...

Ten Thousand Fists CD music
$10.49 This Limited version of BELIEVE is packaged in a leather-bound book, accompanied by a companion bonus DVD disc.
Taking the essence of classic metal and making it contemporary is a feat that Disturbed has accomplished with staggering results. While the band's debut only toyed with melodicism (much of THE SICKNESS was derivative of the growing stable of rap metal bands), BELIEVE is Disturbed's musical arrival. Razor-sharp syncopated riffing is melded with rock radio-friendly melodic vocals, making a jaw-dropping first impression with album-opener "Prayer." The track has the requisite elements to make it an instant metal classic. Disturbed's influences peek through their music, but not in a negative sense; it's clear that Pantera, Metallica and Queensryche were among the artists this band cut their teeth on.
"Intoxication" revisits the vocal style that broke the band with "Down With The Sickness," but vocalist David Draiman puts much more effort into a vocal approach that doesn't rely on gimmicks, especially with the big chorus in "Remember" and the splayed vocal harmonies in "Believe." Making the leap into rock balladry, the album closes on an emotional note with "Darkness." With BELIEVE, Disturbed show themselves to be much more than a one-trick pony; instead they carry the torch for metal in the new millennium.

| | Megadeth System Has Failed CD (2004) Enhanced CD
Ten Thousand Fists music CDs
$11.49 For 2004's THE SYSTEM HAS FAILED, vocalist/guitarist Dave Mustaine reunites Megadeth--original guitarist Chris Poland, along with new members, bassist Jimmie Lee Sloas and drummer Vinnie Colaiuta--for the band's first new studio album in three years. Frontman/songwriter Mustaine has a lot on his mind, as he ruminates on many of the political and social ills troubling the world, and his words are delivered over grooves and riffs reminiscent of mid-period Megadeth (circa COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION). The overall sound is fresh and energetic, and Mustaine conjures memorable licks, particularly when he trades blazing solos with Poland, as on "Die Dead Enough" and the fierce old-school thrash of "Back in the Day." Mustaine also spices SYSTEM with a number of extra sonic flourishes--including strings, banjo, and keyboards--making it an unusually intriguing metal record.
Personnel: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); Lance Dean, Robert Venable, ...
| | Audioslave Out Of Exile CD (2005)
Ten Thousand Fists songs
$12.49 OUT OF EXILE presents a band that has grown comfortably into its own skin. Three years after Audioslave's highly successful debut, the supergroup crafted a truly formidable rock album with a fresh, live-in-the-studio rawness. Former Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello rolls back the distortion subtly, playing with a notably more melodic touch, best evidenced on "Heaven's Dead" and "Dandelion." Soundgarden's Chris Cornell's weathered voice at times walks a perilous ledge, yet never to a fault--that very danger and heartfelt soulfulness are part and parcel of his revered approach. The heady and poetic "#1 Zero" and "Be Yourself" strongly uphold Cornell's consummate lyrical prowess.
OUT OF EXILE could hardly be an Audioslave record without a crop of head-thrashing, foot-stomping riffs, as revealed in "Your Time Has Come," ...
| | Nickelback All The Right Reasons CD (2005)
Ten Thousand Fists album
$14.79 As always, frontman Chad Kroeger's gritty voice remains Nickelback's calling card, and his emotive singing carries every tune, most notably the nostalgic "Photograph" and "Far Away," a tender, echo-laden ballad. Kroger has never met a guitar effect that he didn't like, as evidenced by the revved-up "Next Contestant," which relates the, ahem, difficulties of having a beautiful girlfriend. Though ALL THE RIGHT REASONS is slightly more eclectic than the group's past releases, it's unmistakably a Nickelback outing, and fans of the band are sure to be pleased.

| | Godsmack IV CD (2006)
Ten Thousand Fists CD music
$12.89 But while IV may not overflow with musical reinvention, it boasts the strongest batch of songs the band has written since their debut. The album's lead-off single, "Speak," is a case in point, as are the songs "Shine Down," with its bluesy intro, and the powerhouse "Temptation." Fans looking for more of the well-crafted, bone-rattling sound Godsmack offered on previous albums will be wholly satisfied with IV.
IV is the 2006 release from alt-metal outfit Godsmack. The band's sound, which draws ...

Ten Thousand Fists music CDs
$10.15 This is a limited edition digipak with pop-up graphics and one bonus track.
Originally released throughout Europe in 1999, this Blind Guardian/Iced Earth side project made it to American record stores a year later. Considering the lineage of Demons & Wizards, this Steamhammer/SPV offering is an automatic must-own for fans of latter-day European power metal. All-star membership certainly doesn't ensure a quality recording, but the duo of guitarist Jon Schaffer (Iced ...
