The feverish madness of their March 1977 Australian tour was captured on film in director Lasse Hallstroem's film, which ramains as one of the precious few opportunities to experience the band live on stage. We follow radio disc jockey Ashley Wallace as he tries to hunt down the group for an exclusive, in-depth interview. The film has been fully restored and comes with remastered surround sound. A cut above the average life-on-the-road-with-the-band film, ABBA: THE MOVIE emerged in 1977 at the height of the Swedish band's enormous global fame. Shot in Australia by fellow Swede Lasse Hallstrom (CHOCOLAT, THE CIDER HOUSE RULES), the film is ostensibly designed to give viewers a glimpse at the off-stage life enjoyed by the members of Abba, as well as the on-stage euphoria of their live shows. But there is also a fictional plot neatly interwoven into the action, with Hallstom's cameras following an Australian DJ named Austin (Robert Hughes), who tries to clinch an exclusive interview with the band as they tour his native country. This proves to be a problematic task, with the security surrounding Abba continually thwarting Austin as he attempts to get close to the elusive Swedish foursome. A great way to experience the frenzy that surrounded one of the biggest bands in the world during the 1970s, Hallstrom's film affords some glorious screen time to the music of Abba, while also encompassing a look at the media circus which slavishly followed them around. Abba: The Movie Reviews: "ABBA THE MOVIE is innocent and frequently enjoyable fun..."

Long Awaited DVD A must, if you are an ABBA fan. I first saw it in the early 80's on TV. Had taped it once from TV but lost the tape to my "best friend". Couldn't wait until the DVD was made. The performances are turely ABBA. Also, you get a little more insight to the individual members. Submitted by lnbeshleman (Tallahassee, FL USA) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Enjoyable rare melodious movie Saw this movie thrice, in the early eighties at New Delhi, India. Today, 25 years hence, still vividly remembers it as a really enjoyable movie. Deeply regret the breaking up of this loveable band, thus depriving the people of this world many more melodious songs, which used to have a meaning. A modern blockbuster An excellent live concert for ABBA fans who never succeeded in seeing them in the flesh and who would like to sneak behind the scenes and see how the ABBA magic was created.

Abba: The Movie film
$10.55 The feature film debut of Hayao Miyazaki (NAUSICAÄ OF THE VALLEY OF THE WIND, PRINCESS MONONOKE), THE CASTLE OF CAGLIOSTRO depicts one adventure of the master thief Lupin and his rough-around-the-edges gunman, Jigen. Something of a cross between Batman, James Bond, and Cary Grant's character in TO CATCH A THIEF, Lupin is a suave ladies' man who is also given to feats of athletic daring, aided by a gadget filled belt that gets him out of more than a few scrapes. The plot has Lupin and Jigen traveling to the sleepy little country of Cagliostro and coming to the aid of the unwilling fiance of the diabolical Count Cagliostro. After CAGLIOSTRO, Miyazaki stopped creating "slapstick" feature films in favor of more serious fare; CAGLIOSTRO shows, however, that he is quite capable of delivering the goods in this genre. Based on the Lupin comics by the artist Monkey Punch, CAGLIOSTRO is a great heist/chase film that surpasses most similar live action fare and breezes by with more than a couple of inventive set pieces, as well as some excellent comic dialogue.

$10.55 U2 had been a major entity in the rock music world for many years by the time they released the ACHTUNG BABY album.
