Star anchorman Manolo Bonilla (John Leguizamo) of the Latin broadcasting One Hour With the Truth program has flown down to a small town in Ecuador with producer Marisa (Leonor Watling) and cameraman Ivan (Jose Maira Yazpik) on the trail of a child serial killer and rapist, The Monster of Babahoyo. Manolo is determined to be the hero who single-handedly stops the hero. Cronicas attempts to approach the metaphor of who the true monster is - the criminal, the media, or our society? Damian Alcazar also stars. Extras include deleted scenes, director & star commentary, alternate film ending, making of featurette, still photo gallery, Soledad recording session, previews, mor The murky ethics surrounding tabloid journalism mix with serial-killer intrigue in this powerful film by Ecuadorian writer-director Sebastian Cordero. John Leguizamo stars as Manolo, a Miami-based television reporter for a Spanish-language, real-crime TV show called One Hour with the Truth. While researching a story on The Monster, a child murderer who has been terrorizing an area of Ecuador, Manolo and his crew wind up in the epicenter of a violent near-lynching when a traveling bible salesman named Vinicio (Damián Alcazár) accidentally hits a small boy with his car and kills him. Terrified of being murdered in jail by the boy's father, the badly beaten Vinicio hints that he is willing to reveal clues to the serial killer's identity to help Manolo get his story on the air. A strange psychological game develops between Manolo--who seems to think he can trick Vinicio into confessing his identity as The Monster (thus getting the scoop of the century)--and Vinicio, who wants to use Manolo's media power to get him out of jail in time to see his his wife give birth to his child.
Leguizamo shows star wattage in the lead; he's great in Spanish-language role, and he delivers a relatively restrained performance as a journalist letting ambition get the better of his judgment. Spanish actress Leonor Watling is also good as his sexy love interest. Gloomy location photography creates a rain-soaked, poverty-stricken ambiance that's memorably unsettling. Alfonso Cuaron and Jorge Vergara (Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN) produce this riveting film. Theatrical Trailer: JULY 8, 2005 Cronicas Reviews: "[T]he movie is worth seeing for Leguizamo's sinewy urgency, Alcazar's desperate cleverness as the killer, and the squalid, frantic atmosphere of Latin American hunger."
-- Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly "CRONICAS is a raw and powerful suspense thriller set in Latin America that also is a timely commentary on the tabloid nature and sensationalism of TV news. It examines how far journalists should go to get a story and raises concerns about the methods used to gather sensitive information."-- Claudia Puig, USA Today Cronicas | List Price | $12.99 (You save $3.70) | | Studio | Palm Pictures | | Orig Year | 2005 | | All Time Sales Rank | 63025 | | CD Universe Part number | 6951701 | | Catalog number | 3118 | | Discs | 1 | | Release Date | Nov 08, 2005 | | Rating | R (MPAA) | | Rating Reason | violence, a scene of sexuality, and language | | Running Time | 108 Minutes | | Additional Info | Widescreen; Subtitled; DTS Sound | | Movie Details | Color; Widescreen; Subtitled; DTS Sound |

$5.69 It's the War of 1812, and Captain Jim Marshall (Mark Stevens) is chosen to sail one of America's few naval ships, the Concord, to France and bring back a donation of gold for the war effort. Scheming former British captain Ben Waldridge (Patrick Knowles) and his men are aboard as part of Jim's crew, planning to mutiny and reroute the gold to England. When Waldridge brings an old girlfriend (Angela Lansbury) back with him on the return trip, however, it seems he might have other plans, like grabbing the gold, the girl, and high-tailing it out of there. It's up to Captain Marshall to make sure the bullion gets back to the States, as the fate of the young nation hangs in the balance. Edward Dmytryk (who would later direct the more famous CAINE MUTINY) was just back from being blacklisted when he tackled this Univeral programmer for the King Brothers, and he nicely interweaves naval action and human drama. The beautiful cinematography is courtesy of Ernest Lazlo.

$19.49 Tom (Fab Filippo) has a bet going with three of his office mates to see who can stay inside their apartment-office-shopping complex the longest. After 24 days of the wager, things begin to get shaky for the foursome. All their needs are provided for in the huge consumer complex. But Curt (Gordon Currie), the office Lothario, needs to find some action. Tom has the uptight Sandra (Marya Delver) convinced that the recycled air they've all been breathing is poisoning her. Meanwhile, Sandra sends Randy (Tobias Godson), an office trainee, on an errand that will force him into the outside world. Tom keeps himself medicated with marijuana, but the bizarre behavior of his cubical-mate (Don McKellar) is wearing on him, and his conscience begins to tug at him when he stays in the building after inadvertently causing an emergency situation outside.
Writer-director Gary Burns captures the tedium of low-level office work and mall life in his acid, funny feature, WAYDOWNTOWN. Shot on digital video, the film features a wealth of neat visual effects, and fine comedic performances, particularly from McKellar, and from James McBurney as a peeping tom-security guard who finishes other peoples' sentences and gives mall patrons animal nicknames.
