On SIBERIA, Echo & the Bunnymen's first studio album since 2001's FLOWERS, the brooding Liverpool band reunites with producer Hugh Jones, who worked on the post-punk group's revered early-1980s records CROCODILES and HEAVEN UP HERE. Collaborating with Jones, vocalist/guitarist Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant avoid the pomp and circumstance of outings such as OCEAN RAIN, giving these new songs a welcome immediacy, most notably on the chiming, poppy "Stormy Weather" and the dreamy "In the Margins." Although McCulloch's deep voice lacks its former range, time has given it a charmingly raspy quality that plays nicely off of Sergeant's signature swirling guitar lines. Easily one of Echo & the Bunnymen's best latter-day albums, SIBERIA wisely nods to the band's classic early output without attempting to duplicate it.

Nothing better than new stuff I loved Echo and the Bunnymen in high school. They kept me company when I was skipping school. Lot's of one hit wonders did back then. Now that I'm an adult I'm more picky and Echo's new album passed!!!! I think they were reading my mind when they made this album. Submitted by noone (chicago, IL) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No
From then to now I happen to find and buy all the Echo & the Bunnymen albums as well as the Ian McCulloch solo stuff. His recent Slideling album was so strong it really shows he can stand on his own. Yet what Echo has in addition to Ian's trademark voice and honest lyrics, is Will Sergeant's innovative and original guitar work. All the other talent they work with complete the picture. Echo has evolved their sound over the years into a kind of rock and roll timelessness that is as classic rock as it is alternative anymore. Siberia has lot of melodic surges that really bring your imagination above the trees of the English countryside and carry you through a journey of growing into the awareness of life experience. (If you yearn for the melancholly, the 80's Ocean Rain is still available.) Ian's voice is such a familiar and cherished cultural asset that I am torn...should he quit smoking so he can live longer and make more music for us all? Just immaculate I always love these little britain wonders such as The Cure, Cocteau Twins, Japan... and Echo and The Bunnymen! Thank you guys for another pleasure and joy!
And I can't to mention Ian's (THE) voice! What a unique mixture of Bono and Billy Idol... It's nice to hear from you, Ian! Submitted by Andy (Kiev, Ukraine) Was This Review Helpful? Yes No

Siberia album
$14.69 While Echo & the Bunnymen rarely reached the heights of their 1980s glory days on later releases, albums like 2001's FLOWERS prove they still had plenty of creative juice nine albums into their career. Moody, melodic tunes like "King of Kings" and "Make Me Shine" may lack the angst of OCEAN RAIN-era Echo & the Bunnymen, but the songcraft is as as sharp as ever, if not more. The music still swirls with tinges of `60s psychedelia, but there's a clarity to Will Sargeant's ...
| | Cure Seventeen Seconds: Deluxe Edition CDs (1980) Bonus Tracks; Remastered; Digipak
Siberia CD music
$12.15 Within the space of two short years the Cure mysteriously transformed themselves from a more accessible Wire/Buzzcocks hybrid into the grandiose-haired gloom merchants they resembled for decades. While the international success of singles like "Boys Don't Cry" might have pointed to a continuation of the same formula, Smith decided to take the band into choppier waters. SEVENTEEN SECONDS marked the start of the Cure Phase II. Somewhat reminiscent of bands like Siouxsie & the Banshees (a group Smith played with for a few albums), SEVENTEEN SECONDS is not an album for the faint at heart.

Siberia music CDs
$12.25 This remastered edition features a 14-track bonus disc of rarities that includes numerous demos, studio outtakes, and live performances.
For a band that's known worldwide as the premier purveyors of goth-rock gloom and doom (though hardly incapable of sparkling pop gems), it's no small thing to identify a particular album as their darkest, most disturbing sonic statement. Nevertheless, PORNOGRAPHY surely fills the bill. Reportedly created during a time of great psychological upheaval for group leader Robert Smith, it's a gloriously no-holds-barred existential angst-fest, from the very first line, "It doesn't matter ...

$12.25 This remastered edition features a 15-track bonus disc of rarities that includes numerous demos, studio outtakes, and live performances.
If you ever observed (or were) a pale depressed-looking teenager dressed entirely in black, sitting in the corner scribbling frantically into a marble bound notebook, then you already understand the Cure. In the 1980s, the Cure provided the soundtrack for an entire generation of misfit toys, and if SEVENTEEN SECONDS was a wake-up call for the dispossessed, FAITH is the daily affirmation. Scaled back down to a three-piece with the loss of keyboardist Hartley, the Cure is a lean, mean fighting machine, ready to rumble.
"Rumble" is the best way to describe the propulsive bass playing of Simon Gallup, whose rolling bass anchors both mid-tempo numbers like "The Drowning Man" and faster fare such as "Primary." While no new ground is broken ("Doubt" is basically a rewrite of "Play for Today"), FAITH is stunning in its simplicity and haunting beauty, as evidenced by "All Cats Are Grey" and "The Funeral Party." Even drummer and mascot Lol Tolhurst's minimal beats work to perfection next to the spare-yet-effective instrumentation ...

Siberia album
$18.79 This CD features two albums from hard-rock singer Pat Benatar. LIVE FROM EARTH is a 1983 concert recording that includes her smash hits "Heartbreaker", "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", and "Love is a Battlefield". WIDE AWAKE IN DREAMLAND is mellower and features her last chart hit, "All Fired Up".
Great Britain's Beat Goes On label does its usual bang-up job on this two-fer from fiery songstress Pat Benatar and continues its reissue series of her seminal '80s records. This pairing is rather unusual because they don't add up chronologically, but it hardly matters because they are so well suited to one another. Live from Earth was released in 1983 as a way of offering fans highlights from her star-making tours of America and Europe during the period of ...
